Now I used to be a massive gamer years ago when Halflife and the like were out but I have really lost touch with it all over the years, my PC is due to be replaced and I am going to get a decent spec machine to play games, I was wondering what the folks here rate as their favourite games currently.
I have seen bloodbowl mentioned I will check this out I used to like Xcom that is the best TBS I have seen but I also loved total war, I still have never seen world at war people seem to rave about that!
So what are your top 5 current games for the PC

I only really play 3 so havnt got a top 5 sorry
#1 - GTA IV : like the randomness and the messin about you can do ! not just the killing people but the graphics too ! the missions are good to work through too : dont like multiplayer too much
#2 - COD 4 : good on Multiplayer - love it - Im not that good though but i do ok/real good sometimes : single players good too but i aint played it too much and haven't got right far at all
#3 - COD 2 : like the old war style of this version of COD : it plays good too : im sure a mate once told me that this was supposed to be better than COD 3
ill have to try the cod 5 sometime but i even heard that wasn't much special ! it might be ok after a doo or two on it though !

I wont go into my top 5 games of all time but these are my top 5 that I've played recently. I've not been play any FPS recently though.
Empire Total amazing game huge battles and an Empire to run to boot. You mentioned it so I wont go on.
Neverwinter Nights 2 super RPG game can't think of a better character creation game as it's based on AD&D and comes with a huge amount of options spells items ect. It's been out for a while but still looks good. It's around £7.50 to buy and is well worth it. Mask Of The Betrayer Expansion Pack is also pretty good, but thought Storm Of Zehir Expansion Pack was a pile of toss. Great single player very geeky multiplayer depending on what server you use, but your expected to stay in character and join a forum on most.
Dawn of War 2 I know there are alot of haters because it changed formats, but I really like it and runs really well on my lappy. Plus there are a ton of new maps coming out and a couple of weeks along with a map editor.
Speaking of Relic Company of Heroes is fucking amazing! If you like micro management combat games and it will test your rig to the max on high settings. Great multiplayer and single player. Again it's been out for a while so you can pick it up dirt cheap, but be warned the patches will take hours as Relic are super proactive when it comes to patching.
And lastly I've posted enough about it Blood Bowl. It's a tough game to play when your getting beat because you cant just go GG and quit like you can in most other games. Players age and die, but the game goes on.
Ones to watch out for.
Star Craft 2 Can't wait for this one as I missed the first one comes out around September
CoD Mod 2 not sure when its out but I'll be there
Battlefield 1943 out before the end of the year The battlefield series is by far the greatest FPS made to date.

Fallout 3 easily one of the best PC games of recent times. and if you haven't played it already, don't forget Half Life 2! C&C3/RA3 is quite good on the RTS front, quite similar to thier predicessors. Along with most of those already mentioned, should keep you busy for a while

Having just built and old school gaming rig I havn't found anything that will tempt me off the xbox.
The settlers is keeping me entertained for a bit but its bollx really, just bought COD4 but tis not all that on the PC. COD5 was balls on the xbox so will be balls on the PC Crysis is just a overhyped graphics look what we can do with our engine showoff.
So in answer to the origional post...... dunno not found anything yet but let me know if you do

p.s i may have got out of bed the wrong side today!

I like first person shooters.
Fallout 3 is hard to get into at first, it seem a bit boaring, but once you're into it it's soooo good. Half Life is just widely regarded as a must play. Call of Duty 5 is sweet. I love Bio Shock but it's a bit of a pig resources wise (don't even bother with it if you've got a realtek audio card). Crysis and crysis warhead blow you away IF you can get the framerate.
Fallout 3 isn't a simple fun shooter like the rest, but it's at the top of my 5 cause you can play it multiple times and still descover stuff you didn't the first time round. Complex and satisfying with a lot of choices to be made.
1. Half Life 2
2. Fallout 3
3. Crysis / Warhead
4. Call of Duty 5
5. Bio Shock
e2a, I know I said fallout 3 is at the top of my list, but half life 2 is just essential.

It's an amazing game. The only weakness I think it has is that there really isn't much difference in the troops you get from country to country so it has less replay value than the other Total Wars.
Oh yeah I think it's ubershitty that they don't just give you all the units and depending on what version and where you buy the game depends on what "free" (

) unit you get. Very cheap if you ask me, I mean do they expect people to buy multiply copies so you can have the complete game?
But it's great not being able to cavalry spam thanks to the square formation. If I had to change one thing about the game it wouldn't be to add fantasy units to add variation, but would be to make it that your general didn't die within 2 secs of being in combat. The AI will do it's best to attack your general and RT so it's a good idea to keep your reserves in square formation around them and behind your main line.
Combat has alot to with moral now and a general is the linchpin that holds your army on the field. RT does a better job damaging to moral than it does killing troops until late tech.
It does make for more stratagy than the past games. I'm not sure if they have patched it but last time I played there was a bug in the game that made it impossible to finish the British campaign as the game would constantly crash (Something to do with the native yanks.)

defintely go with
Bioshock - amazing atmosphere and storie and graphics
COD4 - all round sick as fuck needed to be longer...
Crysis - just to trip out in the spaceship and see what all the fuzz was about
Oblivion if youve got a year of your life to spare/waste

Doom 3 its old but still looks amazing and in the dark with sound up its hardcore!
and there just the fps which imo is where pc gaming is at...
they do need to bringback those adventure games like monkey island though with todays technology...

omg i havent played BF2 in years, i'm playing cod4 etc on the ps3, i forgot about BF2

after reading this and being reminded i feel like going and buying a top spec pc just to play BF2 again, BEST FPS EVER .... i was waiting for battlefield on the ps3 for a long time only to be badly dissapointed

they just cant get it right on a console, and i am not a pc gaming fan, but i have to accept that fact . sadly.

If you like that kind of game then another couple of oldish games to try that will run on relatively low spec machines are Evil Genius and Startopia. Of the two I think Evil Genius is the better, you get to be the Bond villain making a sinister base full of nefarious traps

and the trap mechanics work better than in Dungeon Keeper, in that you basically just loaded up areas with the best traps you had, whereas in Evil Genius you can link the traps, so you can set up mazes with fans that blow enemy agents into other traps & all kinds of other cunning stuff.

Not even sure if I have 5 games installed on my PC right now
1) Empire Total War
2) Rollercoaster Tycoon 3
3) Football Manager 07
4) Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
5) gotta go check - until 4 months ago this list would be just World of Warcraft - broke that addiction though (I just posted in the addiction thread actually - synchronicity)
Track Mania - Online stunt racing this is pretty good actually I havent played it in ages.
Edit - I hadnt read the post above me either and then said wow - more syncronicity.
Empire Total War is awesome if you got the rig to play it on btw.
4Gb Ram , Q6600 2.7GHzOC, 9800 GTX on a 32" 1080p monitor - not the best resolution but I can sit 10 feet away np

world of warcraft is a pile of shit Neverwinter Nights 2 is leagues better as is Oblivion but you can only play that single player. WoW is the Spice Girls of PC gaming. Dull graphics, repetitive action and to boot you have to pay monthly for it! Like what the fuck? It's just one of those games that can easily hook you, my taste alarms kicked when when I played it as it reminded me of a bad mega drive RPG. It's got about as much atmosphere as a roll of sellotape.
The only thing I can see going for it is that going out in a live party is fun, but you can do that in so many better games.

Yep.
And if you like F.E.A.R. on the 360 Mr_C then you really should play it on the PC, the PC version wees all over the console version

(like pretty much every FPS that out on both PC and console...) The PC really is the system for FPS games.
E2A I did enjoy F.E.A.R. a lot, after some initial doubts about it due to my cack PC. But once I had the hardware it was a belting good game - call me perverse but I particularly enjoyed nailing the enemies to the walls by the head with headshots using that gun that fired big fuckoff tentpeg thingys, then laughing like fuck when I'd come back to an area and see the walls decorated by the hanging corpses

Most satisfying

The best thing about PC gaming is the freedom the community has to create additions and even new forms of the game using the engine etc from the original. A prime example being counterstrike. That was a community made and released game using half life original. Which turned out to be far more popular and a far better game than the original. Then you have games like Battlefield. Where the community releases mods and addons, create new content and also play with the engine and game to make things different. That's the biggest single difference between PC and specific game stations like the 360. As well as that, the mouse is certainly better for FPS. No doubt about that at all. There's more freedom with PC games. The community can do more with PC games.
1. Counterstrike (PC)
2. Battlefield 1942 (PC)
3. Battlefield 2 (PC)
4. Cod 4 (Xbox)
5. PGR 4 (Xbox)

Haha fellow Dungeon Keeper fans! I was so obsessed with playing that game during high school, probably explains my grades during the first six months I had it! I always thought Bullfrog were going to release a DK3, there was a trailer for it at the end of the 2nd game. Wasn't Bullfrog a subsidiary of Blizzard? Fucking ace game anyway! And the Elder Scrolls has got to be my all time favourite! Haha even makes me think back to the first RPG I ever played, which was called Ultima 8! Man that's a walk down memory lane.
