can anyone tell me if a playstation 3 can play avi. video files ?

I believe that it can play DivX so long as it has the right firmware installed - it was an update quite a while back.

i am pretty sure it can my mates put films from disks onto theirs(not sure if avi or mpeg) and it will work but it can be fussy and not accept all films from the same disk. i have a ps3 but have never tried it there may be a difference between older 60 gig models(the ones that play ps2 games) and newer models though.

PS3s can play DivX AVI files as from the firmware update of Dec.2007.

u can also stream ur avi's to ur ps3 using media server apps. I use tversity, its free and does the job really well.
