I'm sure many people on these boards love to frequent Amsterdam, I myself have been 19 times and i thought i would start an Amsterdam munchies thread...My favourite place to eat in Amsterdam is The Taco Shop (Tolstraat 200 1074 VN Amsterdam) Big portions & great food the burritos are the nuts...

In my early days of the dam I used to get chips and mayonnaise from Febo, when I go with the missus we tend to try and enjoy ourself, we go to this Argentinian steak place but fuck knows what its called or where it is, we always manage to find it though.

Hell yeah "wok" noddles late in the night are superb... or some reheated "street pizza" with a banna waffle float my boat (from the very overpriced bakers).
I normally like to eat well BUT damn the above is too nice when Im buzzed and lets face it more time in restaurants = less time in coffee shops.

Ashamed to say, but it s McD's for me.
Believe it or not but McDonalds over there is QUALITY. Always piping hot, fresh and filling. Makes you realise just how wrong we get it over here. The British attitude is bullshit. We just accept crap food.
Give it a try.

If anyone ever goes over the Christmas or New Years you MUST try the Dutch Olliebollen.
Kind of there "mince pie". Literally translates as "Oil Ball" is like a big ball of dough with Raisins & Cinnamon, deep fried and covered in Sugar or Chocolate. Absolutely delicious - although about 3000 calories.
Nice

Last time I was there I hit on this pub on the Warmoesstraat nearly opposite Hunters and down abit (the smaller one), this place done a real good club sandwich. Possibly slightly over priced as is everything in the Dam but the ingredients were nice and fresh and it was of a healthy size aswell. Don't mind paying higher prices when the food is of decent quality and it fills you up properly.

All VERY cool places... Have you tried the bagle place at the other end of the market...? It's properly delicious, VERY cool and the people who run it are properly dahling. Amsterdam is a marvelous place to visit and perhaps even live one day...once the pound groans and lifts itself up against the Euro again. Hooray for stock market

The 'Wok to Walk' shops are great
Head down the Albertcuyp Market for fresh stroopwaffles (OMG!)....while you're down that way stop in to Katsu for a smoke.
Vlaamse Frites are delicious too.....volcanologist metioned the best place to get them - Vleminckx Sausmeesters, it's just around the corner from Dampkring. Vleminckx is popular with the locals, but closes early......in which case head to Damrak for more of the same from Mannekin Pis.

mmmmmmmmm i nearly died wen i had one of those they are so so nice but so so unhealthy. those stalls selling them at chistmas were selling some serious munchie foods. i think all the weight i put on that christmas was due to those stalls.

The food quality is excellent in Amsterdam if a little overpriced. My favourite was probably the full English breakfasts from Stones Cafe, cooked to perfection.

Yes they do Available in coffeeshops hot or cold but it is expensive as is anything from a coffeeshop. Best off getting it in 1L cartons from Albert Heijn or from any other supermarket you can find. If I remember rightly it is E1.19 for 1L cartons, I always bring some home with me.

for real , the coffeeshops and corner stores are a rip off
i mean you pay €2 for a 200ml coke in a coffeeshop
but you can buy 1.5 litre for €1.19 at the supermarket, shits crazy

From visiting the dam 20 plus times, I have discovered a gem, Its the foodhall in a department store called V&D, Rokin 203, 1012 XC. This place does everything, Fresh Juice bar, Noodle bar, patiserrie, they'll cook a steak right in front of you if thats what you like, sandwich bar. The place is so cheap and everything is fresh. It closes around 6ish but the best time to hit it is between 12 and 3, its always packed with locals which is always a good sign

We tried to steer clear of McD's because my boyfriend recalled seeing a rat run across the floor in one of them on a previous visit, kind of put us off.... Ended up going there eventually though, we were dying for some good junk food

Cant remember the name of the place but theres a little shop on the Leidestratt no more than a hundred yards or so from the flower market sells sandwiches and toasties, very small shop with only a couple fridges and a counter on the back wall but fuck me its delicious, was under 2 euro for a cheese + ham toastie, a nice alternative to maccies. What we also like to do is stock up 10 or 20 euro worth of junk food and leave it in the hotel room awaiting your return at early o'clock when you're total ripped
