Right-ho peeps - just got me some DDHS from the shop {nicely Joolz wink.gif }. Never grown such a Sat dom before, let alone in a SoG, so any advice - especially as to Vegging Period - would be welcome.
I am puzzled as to what to do after germination. Previously I've grown big plants, so I just left seedling to vegg for 6 - 10 weeks. But now I have gone SoG...... urm....... what do I do? Veg them for a couple of months with pruning to keep them small?
Advice anyone?

Number one popped the crust this morning - sprightly looking little seedling.
Two more going into the soil today/tomorrow I think.....
Info anyone?

I havent grown the DDHS yet mate, but if shes anything like the DHSxC99 i grew out at the beginning of this year , height shouldn't be a prob

I vegged her for about 4 weeks, and she took a natural looking, very bushy form all the way through the grow.

If i rember rightly the main grow shoot was the only one I pinched out and i think she didnt even reach the 4ft mark

nice smoke too wink.gif

If you are using a true Sea of Green method I'd suggest sexing and cloning off the seed plants first. I don't see how you could pull it off from unsexed seed plants. It's really not that hard or delaying, most vegging seed plants "show" their sex at around 6 weeks, and at that time they typically have multiple "clonable" branches to use. A good cloning tech should give you rooted slips in 7-10 days, ready for an orderly veg 'n flower in the SoG room. A delay of two weeks total for a 100% or more gain in yield and quality - it's a worthwhile trade off.

If you actually mean Screen of Green (ScrOG), my preferred method, then pinch the meristem at 6" below the screen and let her go... Just figure 30-35 days of stretch in your calculations as to when to initiate flowering. Harvest can be expected in 58-63 days. Seed plants are easier to manage in ScrOG, but I still sex prior to induction to cull males and allow some veg time afterward to fill in the screen space after they are vacated.

Whatever method you choose, give a mostly sativa seed plant a minimum of 8 weeks veg prior to induction. You will be rewarded with much fuller buds and an overall heavier yield, 50%-100% more depending on the variety. Sativas are used to much longer life cycles, sometimes longer than 12 months, so it's best not to treat them like a cookie-cutter Dutch indica.

Mostly, have fun and post your results!

Hi mate,
You probably know that sog works best using cuttings from a selected mother, though you can get away with seedlings, you will always have some difference in height and general appearance and finishing time ect, making it difficult to get an even canopy of main buds.

But because you are growing from seed this time, I reckon you need to be looking for a good all-round mother plant as a keeper from your pack of DDHS.

Grow the whole pack out in one go if you can, bear in mind you will have at least 40% males to chuck out, so you should have enough room to veg them for 5-8 weeks as you still need them to be mature enough before flowering unlike cuttings that come from an already mature plant.
Take a couple of cuttings from each plant before you go 12/12, label & root them in a propagator under some florescence lights, bin male cuttings when you know the sex from your mature plants . Keep the female clones just ticking over in permanent veg under flos. That way you have a copy of each of your DDHS ladies to keep as a possible mother, and just bin the ones that are not to your satisfaction after you have finished flowering out the originals. And try and make a decision on one or two phenotypes as keepers.

I wouldn’t prune the main tops as you are looking for good central bud growth when growing sog and so you want to choose a plant that has the best looking main cola from all the female plants you have, just take off the lower branches that receive little light as the plants grow.

There’s many things to look for in a good mother plant for sog, you want ones that have a high flower to leaf ratio with a good main stem, not to much side branching, reasonable finishing times, mold resistance, no hermi traits, and of course a high that you enjoy as well as taste and smell. Once you have your mother plant, growing sog will become much easier as clones will be identical in height and shape allowing you to pack many more in the space you have.

That’s touching on the basics of how I do it, hope that was the sort of info you were after and not just going over old ground.

Good luck with SOG, get it right and you wont look back!

All the best, Bud Brother. smile.gif

Wow, thanks folks.
I've gone for Sea of Green following a recent move. I was growing monsters of four to six feet before!!! So I am altogether in the midst of much experimentation, and the above info is all good stuff. Sounds like I do with Seedlings just as before, 8 - 10 weeks, clone and Flo, hravest, smoke and decide!
First one is looking very pretty this AM. If I get this Sciatica kicked into touch and my arthritis keeps calm {its good weather today, phew!} I am planting two more today. Space, alas, does not permit the planting of the whole pack at once.
Especial thanks to Breeder Baudelaire for both the seeds and the info.
Happy Growing Folks!

Hiya Arnold,
I've just ordered some DDHS from Joolz, and looking at this thread I was thinking your first ones must have finished recently/be finishing soon, so I was wondering how you got on with them? Anything you can tell me about their growth pattern would be great - stretch time and amount, flowering time (I know Baud said ~60 days, was wondering what your experience was). Did you notice distinct phenotypes, or were they fairly uniform? Any difficulties you had with them?
Hope your perpetual SOG's still going smoothly and giving you all the medicine you need.

JP.

Blimey! Not only had I forgotten this thread, I still don't recall it!?? w00t.gif lol.gif
Oh well......
The two DDHS both went hermie. I suspect due to a light leak which I had failed to spot until the other week. Will be going again with frseh beans in a month or so {"Seed Area" currently got 3 Afghani babies in it}.

Heheh, your evil twin been posting again smile.gif

Sorry to hear about the hermies, bad luck that, hope you have better luck with them next time around. Cheers for the reply mate.

Well, here we go again. I put three more beans into the Allmix the other day. As usual for Baud's seeds they pop like mad. The first one was up and at it in ...... wait for it ........ 20 hours! The other two look like they'll be seeking the light in a day or so.
Really itching to get some haze genetics into my system, oh yes.
Fingers crossed for happy new year it is then.....
