ok so ive got everything ready to brew some essence , but i dont have a thermometer

only thing ive got to keep the brew warm overnight is a heat mat, which would normally be used for a lizard tank

do you think this will keep it warm enough???

What wattage is it? I use a 15w heat mat and i place the 2L jug with the brewing essence in a bucket with water in it and put the mat under that, but it dont really do that much but i just add a little hot water to the bucket every couple of hours and that takes the temp back up a bit but you really need to monitor it in some way, its very easy to take the temp to high.

E2a:- you need to wbe careful with the heat mats to as when it bubbles over which it always does and the moisture gets on the mat it can cause it to short, i'm sure it was rand from over the pond that it happened to

its only a 7 watt heat mat

ive got the brew in a wide glass bowl, when i lift the bowl, the bottom of it feels warm

but if the water feels cool i will add a bit from the kettle to bring the temp up, without over doing it

and the bubbles, could i not scoop the foam off when it gets towards the top of the bowl, then let it carry on brewing????

I did it in a heated propagator and wrapped sides of the bowl in bubblewrap to keep it warm overnight.

You need to stand the bowl in a tray at least, maybe with the mat underneath the tray.

edit: tray/mat.

right ive now got the bowl in a metal roasting tray, to catch the overspill

should i keep adding hot water to this tray to keep the temps up??

what is the minimum temp for the essence to survive

i know it will slow down production, but ive got 24 hours from now till i gotta use it

its bubbling now, but it dont feel very warm to me

will it still work???
