I have not told any one ether which is unlike me but then theses things have a habit of getting you when you least expect them to ..... so I am the only one who knows for now .....any help would be much welcomed

If you really want to know Rip mate,my grandad had it for his cancer of his anus,i kid you not,my dad said it was the first time he saw him cry
He also went blind for a few days. But having said this it cured him and gave him another 12 years after which a stroke got him. Sorry to hear that you need it mate.

Sorry to hear of your news.
My mum had chemo and it was really rough on her. Only thing I ever really heard her complain about and she had a raw deal from life generally.
That said, she recovered well and got nine more healthy years. Would have been more but she was an incorrigible smoker.
Best of luck
Papa.

Hey there rptd - there are various forms of Chemo - it is worth understanding which one you are having as they do differ in effects. I had standard Chemo for about 3 or four years on and off - not for cancer but it was used to kill my immune system - becuase it kept trying to kill me (stupid bloody immune system must av been on crack...)
Anyway - when i was a lad I used to have dreads, they all fell out sadly. Also you will feel sick a lot. but nothign a good cup of weed tea cant help. They will give you this stuff that you have to drink after each session to stop making you sick. I woudl really really try to find somethign very very strong to have it with as it tastes foul and used to make me sick...
You will also become very lathargic - this cannot be helped so make sure you rest up and chill as much as possible - do not exert yourself in anyway. and keep eating - you will feel like you dont want to, but it is the best thing you can do - if you make some mild hash cakes they are great - it calms down the sickness and opens your appetite.
most important thing of all though mate is to keep your head up - other people on my ward used to sulk and they got worse. As we have already discussed racing wheelchairs and stuff is by far the best remedy and makes you smile when teh porters are running after you and cant get you.
Sorry I cant elaborate more at the moment - the last time i had it was about 7 to 10 years ago. But my father recently had it so will tap him up for some more info for you.
Keep your head up buddy
Take care

Like the last poster stated, it would be helpful to know the type of cancer and the type of chemo.
I am just goin through all this with a loved one atm and its breaking my heart tbh.
You seem like a positive person from your posts. Stay that way if at all possible.
I wish you the best of luck.

its called Chordoma its rare and I'm even luckier in the fact its non-malignant (thats even rarer with this type)
in three places neck (small) middle back (even smaller) and lumber (bigger) I'm not going to tell any one because I don't want any one to treat me with any difference to how I am now .................. I don't want kid gloves ...
I'm not sure what form the chemo is gonna take till Tuesday .....
If its gonna be a long drawn out type of thing that makes my quality of life bad for me ... then I don't want to know

...I shall not be going down that root not matter the consequence.. I have prepared myself mentally over the last few days ... and to be honest I feel good inside and thats all that matter to me now ......... life is sweet , life is good ,...............and if at such a time my quality of life deteriorates to a point where I can't enjoy it then I have already taken steps to make sure that wont happen
so thanks for those that have all ready posted so far .... would like to know just what it entails in general and its type of effects .
as always a happy rip

Tiredness and Sickness, is about the sum of it - it does differ from person to person - but as I said earlier the happier the easier.
With regards to longevity - that depends on the amount of cancer that needs a good kicking, but generally it is not a long winded affair.

For a forum to be so happy, so positive with so many good people onboard, there's a hell of a lot of suffering.
I've noticed more and more over the last few months that there is so much pain here - it's masked well by the positivity.
One of the things that has helped me through hard times is the thoughts of others. You can tell them not to treat you like a fragile egg and it's good to know they are there ready to help you. It's this sort of thing that makes you realise just how deep friendships go.
So, although i can't really help - my advice is to tell someone.

Hi riptd sorry to hear the news
Obviously as stated each person's treatment is tailored to them and there illness
My Dad is currently receiving chemo. I was with him on Thursday for his treatment at the cancer unit.
Symptoms he reports are general tiredness. He sleeps for about 10 hours a night and then nap in the afternoon.
He feels cold a lot of the time, to the point where he finds touching things like door handles too cold. He hasn't felt sick so maybe the anti emetics are doing their job but is thirsty a lot.
He is also easily irritated/annoyed. I can relate to that one when I had my radiotherapy just couldn't stand family friends fussing over me.
Another thing I can think of is he has to stay out of the sun.
As Keye points out it's good to talk to someone about this. During my radiotherapy I found it easier to talk to a "fringe" friend (an awful term but don't know how else to say it) someone that I was not too close to, so therefore not emotionally attached to like close friends and family. He was a great support during that time and we became very close friends.
We keep saying to my Dad the most important thing is PMA Positive Mental Attitude

alrite rip ive done chemo 4 times mate, 1st course i felt alrite for about the 1st 2days then its a fair bit of nausea, tiredness and a proper inability to have a shit (worst thing bout it imo). about 2 maybe 3weeks later the hair goes, all of it everywhere!
try staying outa the sun from now on if your starting soon, your skin will thank you for this and defo stay outa the sun during/after chemo or you'll burn like never before. any signs of feeling extra rough you MUST get hold of the hosi doing your chemo.
hope it goes well rip.
o yea weed was the only way for me to manage to eat cos me taste buds were shot for months.

It doesnt just affect the person with the illness, very bad effect on the rest of the family,my six year old son couldnt understand what was happening to his mum,I got very irritable, bad times, wouldnt it be incredible if the current government stopped their "war on drugs" recalled the troops from abroad, and ploughed all that wasted cash into a decent upgraded healthcare system, and massive research into this dreadful disease.

Sorry to hear about the growths mate and I'm in complete agreement over the treatment. I wouldn't go through something long and drawn out that makes you feel worse than the illness it's meant to be treating. I'd rather try to enjoy the time I have left. Rip, Sorry to hear the news m8. Life sucks sometimes but us stoners are a strong breed and you'll be 'right.
Cant really add too much more advice than has already been given. I did 6 months chemo last year, for Hep C not cancer, so the type of chemo will be different.
They will monitor your blood level closely on chemo to check your red and white blood counts. Fortunately the NHS will give you rescue drugs if these fall too low. Unfortunately, for the scum like me that caught Hep C through drug use (albeit as a result of government prohibition), rescue drugs were not given and I suffered severe anemia (basically half my red blood cells were killed).
The result is extreme tiredness and the main advice I can give is not too push yourself and listen to your body, dont even tink about overdoing anything, stay positive and be kind to yourself.
Good luck m8

I don't really know much about it other than what's already been said. Loss of hair, tiredness. I know that there's some kind of period where you can't go out too, I think that it's to protect yourself from infection because of a weakened immune system.
I have a friend who's just finished chemo etc for breast cancer. I'll be more than happy to drop her an email and find out some info for you if you like. But please do talk to someone about it, even someone on here by PM, it's nice to have some kind of 'support buddy'

Yeah, if rip's chemo is similar to mine your neutrophils (sp?) (which are white blood cells and fight off infection I think) will drop drastically. Extreme hand washing to an OCD level. Cleansiness is really important so you dont come into contact with anything nasty. Like I said before, you will be given rescue drugs if they fall dangerously low.

I understand boredom might be an issue when your having treatment. I can't remember who told me or where I learned that but I'm sure it's true. Maybe someone who has 1st hand experience can comment on this. Basically, apart from the known and obvious physical side effects the next problem was the boredom. For some reason I have it in my mind that advice given to me was to make sure you provide entertainment because there's loads of doing nothing. When things seem fixed in my mind like this they're usually right but I just can't remember where I learned it. I'd like someone to tell me if this is right or not though.

Ok guys back sorry i had to go to work....home now

....Ok so if your doing chemo...long words short....Cancer can't survive in a alkaline body as in basically a vegan aka vegetarian....you may have to do research alittle yourself but i speak the truth cancer cells can not survive in a vegan body....im vegetarian ask any real vegan we rarley get sick i mean maybe once a year from a cold but thats about it...when your vegan your colon/immune system is so strong its ridiculous.. so what im telling you man is give up meat completely and dairy...meat is not bad for you its just all the chemicals that are put into meat before you eat it is going into your body thus why you see millions with out kinds of sickness...you dont have to take my word for it man but i guarantee you if you become vegan give up dairy and start taking herbs you will see a tremendous difference

hello rip. what news to wake up to this morning when i signed onto the board. i am sorry to hear your news and that you have to go through this. i am relatively new to the board but have come across your postings from time to time.
my dad had chemo for an agressive form of prostate cancer. at the time he wouldn't talk about it. it was his wife who made the call to me, to let me know and to keep me informed on what he was going through. the chemo made him very lethargic. they gave him meds to keep him from being sick which worked in the beginning but then didn't. he went bald but when it grew back he had a gorgeous head of white hair!
the best news is he is ok now and has been for 6 years.
wishing you all the best, i'll be thinking of you.
