I bought 5 feminised Flying Dutchmen Blueberry Skunk seeds about a year ago and they have been in the sealed packet in the fridge ever since. I intended to grow them indoors using hydroponics but due to personal circumstances I am unable. Last summer I grew one plant (not same strain) in the corner of my garden and it grew pretty well and I was thinking of trying one of the BS seeds outside. My questions are :

Is this strain suitable for outdoors?
If it is suitable when is the best time to start outside?
What should I feed it?

Any other info that may help would be appreciated.

I live in the south west so conditions are usually pretty good until about sept.

Cheers

Mate I have no idea if it's possible to grow that strain outdoors. But if you wanna give it a go (worth a shot eh?) get started now! Check out the grow FAQ for all information on feeding etc etc

Seems like the majority of strains work to some extent outdoors, just start 'em off on your windowsill to give them a good chance.

Good Luck

Dude, get it out there now. Try and get it started inside until it's grown a few leaves then put it out. You need to get cracking on though dude, times ticking away!

Almost any strain can be grown outdoors, even if the strain itself was developed purely indoors with hydro or whatever. But - the tight nugs you see in the bud porn can only be achieved through A LOT of direct sunlight!
Bad Penny.
I have some blueberry out mate, middle of a field, direct sunlight and you can get dense decent sized buds on outdoor UK plants ph34r.gif

The plant is ready to go outside now after spending about a week in a jiffy soil block. I was going to transfer it to a large pot filled with standard compost but I was not sure what to fertilise it with. I have got some hydroponic solution left over from a past grow and wondered if I could use it to water the plant if I diluted it in the same amounts as when using it in hydro or should I use another type of plant food. Also should I use normal garden compost or would it be best to use some other medium. I have a head shop close by so can easily buy stuff if required.

I am only going to grow one plant in the corner of my back garden which is surrounded by walls on all sides so no-one can look in and the back garden backs only an access lane so people are not walking past but I am a little worried in case I did get caught growing. I cannot afford to lose my job so if there was a chance I could if I got caught then I would probably not bother with the grow. I have not got a criminal record and have never been in trouble with the police before.

Hopefully these questions can be answered without having to post new topics in other areas of the forum.

Cheers

dude, i would get some soil nutes, bio bizz will do, grow n bloom, nice and simple and cheap.

Ditch the hydro stuff if ur growing in muck.

pot up as required and you will still be ok. Any compost will do a job but check the pinned threads in the compost forum, they have compost trials....can get good shizzle for cheap too.

enjoy the fruits of ur labour! spliff.gif

Here are a couple of photos of the plant. It has been outside for about 14 weeks and it is looking pretty good but I am not sure when to cut it down. I think it went into flower during the middle of September but I am only basing that on the fact that sunlight hours started to drop below 12 around then.

I had a similar problem last year where a cold front came in and I ended up chopping because I did not want to risk mold. I doubt if the photos are good enough to tell how far along she is but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

i say it wo0uld need another week or 2 at least but its not good weather for it now. ace looking plant for outdoors and small pot. maybe leave it in a dark room on the night to avoid frosts could buy you another week

I am gutted the weather has turned so shit. I have lights, fans, tent etc but my girlfriend has put a veto on bringing it inside. Not sure what to do. It seems such a waste to chop it now when it only needs another week or two. The temperatures where I am are not too bad overnight at the moment but it is raining pretty much all the time so I am more worried about it going mouldy. I think I may have to do a bit more convincing about bringing it indoors but I don't have much hope.

Thanks for the advice.

If I put something above the plant to help shelter it from the rain will this help?
agito
yes less moisture on those buds will helps alot just keep an eye of weather forcast for frosts is the big issue as well even if you get a week it will make a big difference but if it did not start flowering till middle of sept 8 weeks would be just shy of middle of nov if its the 10 week pheno ur looking at december lol.gif
roughly what percentage of the pistols are brown

hi D, I`d be happy with that the way it is, seeing as it was started late, protection will help but sure how much, it is still going to be cool and damp, but at least you see it every day and can always pull it if it looks like it is going to go mouldy on you. gl with it. keep on puffin

Got home tonight after work and brought the plant indoors as it has been raining a lot lately and I noticed some mould. Luckily it does not seem to bad. I thoroughly checked the plant and separated the mouldy stuff and I am going to make bubble hash with it. (I assume that it is not advisable to smoke mouldy bud). I also decided to cut the rest of the plant down as over 50% of the pistils were brown although I think the main cola could have done with another week or so but I don't really have that option. Anyway, here are a couple of pics. One of the plant before I chopped it and one of a mouldy bud.

well at 50% brown i would have still said 2 weeks but after seeing the mold i would have done the same,
your right dont smoke moldy buds.

still cant get over how dense them buds are for an outdoor plant. I think good grower but wrong strain smile.gif

I't does very well outdoors here in the southern us. good yielder. watch for mold though, very tight buds.
ej442noray
i think you did well D, and you could probably start that plant at least a month earlier there couldn`t you? probably get 4 times that amount if in good spot in the ground and earlier start:) I`d smoke it. cheers
