Hi
I am getting a plan together for a new grow shed,
Max lighting will be 3 x600, What thickness would i need to be 100% sure there would be no heat signature?
and what would be the best type of celotex to get as i have seen they come in different finishes
Cheers

Cant say for definite that it will remove heat sigs totally 100% but, i'm using 50mm to line my room/box and im REALLY fucking hoping that gets most of it!

If you are really worried go for the 100mm stuff just to be on the safe side or 2 layers of 50 the 2nd layer covering any gaps in the first that lead to outside. The trouble is, imo, outside the ambient tems is so much cooler normally (in the uk anyway) than a grow, what with the sensitive pig cameras now i think any temp difference to say a neighbours shed could be noticable.

Your best off trying to set up a room inside a room (tent/closet, whatever), inside your gaff. and insulate that with celotex or something (kingspan if ur rich or work on a building site) it'd be much easier to blend the temperatures between the grow room, the room its in and in turn the external walls or roof or whatever of that room.

From my experience, my grow has been at 30degrees before and i wasn't able to feel any heat, either radiating from it or when touching the surface on the outside walls of the grow room. the room its in sits at about 22 deg most of the time.

Just had an idea, if you could leave a cavity or air gap in between the shed wall and the celotex and then completley seal the inside of the celotex there should be no way of heat escaping into the cavity and it should remain the same temp, near enough outside temp all around the grow? tho like i say i dunno how good the stuff is when it comes to the cop cams, im just hoping its the mutts.

Good luck to you with it. Braver than I growing outside of the house, too many sticky fingered bastards and people with large noses and no sense.

e2a: bit of a tin foil hat moment there, dont get too paranoid about choppers. they are expensive to run and dont normally go on the look out for small grows. so i've been told, its normally someone grassin u up if ur gonna get caught so just dont say anything to anybody.

I have no option but to grow in a shed and on my last grow i had to ditch it due to the Helli being 500 yards away
for over 20 Min's {turns out someone had a bit of hassle and got a light stabbing}
so i take it that it is wise not to fill the gaps between the shed frame and just use the celotex as a inner skin,@50 mm
then line that with the diamond sheet?

Insulating it with celotex and leaving air pockets sounds like the safest idea. Have you thought about cooling the air as it exits the grow room? I'd imagine it might look a tad suspicious if you have a cool shed pumping out air at 24-ish degrees! Might want to extract air from the top and put the ducting under the shed or run it under a compost heap. Or another idea that was on last night on Ray Mears is you could run the ducting to a distance from the grow and pump it out there. The reason it was on Ray Mears is that some people had to carry the smoke away from their fire to avoid detection, they ran an exhaust from the fire, underground and then pumped the smoke out a looong way from their stove. Just an idea!

I dont grow outside the house so cant say for definite but as i said b4 i recon if you use 2 layers of 50mm thick celotex then i think it would be harder to see the temperature difference than just using one layer and then diamond foil, but yeah dont fill the shed frame and like make a sealed box out of the celotex. even on the floor with some wood to protect it, its well sturdy.

Then you can completley seal it. but as said by ICTHC the biggest issue is where and how to vent the extract, imo. it is all well and good having the space undetectable but if the byproducts are then it could be a problem.

IC's idea of diggin a trench and burying some ducting is a very good one. See toward the end of leepys dig diary (i think) and i think he uses an underground duct that goes up into his garden into a statue or water feature or something and vents out that way, using a water feature could be a very good way to cool the extract air as well as being away from the grow, but even so doing that will involve a lot of digging and laying of pipe and may get seen by neighbours as suspicious, it all depends on your situation m8. just be careful growing outside someone may think its weird you go to the shed twice or more a day blinding light coming from the door as you enter. man i get paranoid about people being able to see my grow light through my 1st floor window when i open the door to mine!!

Good luck m8.
