Hello, I am growing some UK cheese I got as a cutting. I am just wondering when this flowers will it stink mine and my neighbours gardens out? My neighbours gardens are 2 meters aways either side of the greenhouse. I am up for getting a carbon filter if thats what is needed and would appreciate any recommendations.

I am a little worried too. I have 5 plants in a poly tunnel. I am hoping that a few pots of odour control stuff and good ventilation will do the trick

Hi All,

Uk Cheese really stinks when in full bloom (Hence the name).

I think a carbon filter would be the only way to stop the aroma drifting to your neighbours Gardens (if you have access to power in you Greenhouse).

Hope all goes well! spliff.gif

Only on days with no wind or very low wind you will notice the pungent smell.

As long as you have good air circulation the smell shouldn't be too bad.

Why not try growing some curry plants and some lavendar?

If your carbon filter can't keep up with the humidity you may spoil your grow

I find it is calm, mild nights that are the worst for smell drifting a long way.

regardless of weather, it will stink. its in a greenhouse, it will still stink, no matter what u do it will stink. seriously, get a carbon filter, go to ur local garden centre and get the most smelliest plant, a size of a bush preferably, and put it around ur greenhouse. then u may have a chance, otherwise, u can bet ur whole street wil stink of weed.

Hiya BMTF,

I'm also growing some cheese under plastic and have done many times before, the way I deal with the smell is I water them at night when all is quiet, then if you brush against them accidently during the watering process, no one near by will smell the pungent odour. I also have a veg patch and use anaerobic comfrey as a fertiliser for the veggies and believe me it stinks after watering it on the veggies and the odour from the comfrey easily takes over the smell of the plants in the greenhouse. Also keep the doors and vents open fully as much as possible and this will also help to keep the odour down. If you do start to use anaerobic comfrey as an odour control make it more concentrated on hot days when there is no wind because I find this is when my uk cheese really have a pungent odour and the concentrated comfrey covers this odour for my plants and it's totally free because I have a couple of monster comfrey plants in my garden that I use.

Good luck,
GG

a big bucket of creasol ( iffy spelling) and pine disinfectant are my masking smells of choice.. keep meaning to plant some lemon plant in the garden too .. other herbs kick out some smell also.. just ask a the garden center mate , just tell them that next doors dog is your problem and you want something to mask the smell..
