Has anyone grown or tried to grow Swazi 'Rooi bart' or kariba suprise from african seeds? I like the look of them but I hear they are hard to germinate and after that they need lots of light to do at all well. I like the idea of having some wild african plants as a change from all the cultivated dutch ones.

Thanks

Hi,

I havent tried any of the african seeds from africanseeds.com, but if you go to the website three of the pictures they claim to be there seeds ar einfact rips from the colour centre section of hashish! by robert connell clarke, the bud of root bart is actually a skunk no1 in that book, the bud of malawi gold is also out of that book showing a plant 2 weeks before maturation and the pic that they use for there durban poison is actually a indian sativa i nthe colour section of hashish.

now im not saying that theyre dodgy or wot as i dont know, just saying becarefull as sometimes things ar enot as they seem and if your only going by the pics on the site you may come away dissapoited

peace

With the rooi bart it is the red hair that I like. And if that is skunk#1 in he picy then the real rooi bart should be more red. But it don't say much for the seed company stealing pics like that (isnt that illegal?). Ive found good things said about it (here: http://www.uk420.com/boards/index.php?show...1&hl=rooi+bart)
By the puffer who gave me much good advice when i 1st joined tho and no bad ones from anyone. I wish there were more people selling natural seeds what I would really like is wild seeds from nepal, but i don't think any one sells them over he web tho.

Sinaiseeds.com looks interseting only the one strain tho.

heh, ive just noticed that there is rooi bart in the uk420 store only they are called Swazi Redbeard. They are from seedsman.
Am I right in thinking that because it is a natural strain the seeds will be the same regardles of where you get them?

I'd expect that from whatever stock you purchase, you'd be purchasing the "best examples" that seed bank found. There could be a fair bit of difference from different stocks, depending on how much effort went into selections and possibly back crossing, or where they got their original seeds. But seeds from 1 stock should be pretty consistant, if it is a true breed strain.

Hybrids are to often reputed to show more vigour in their growth, and sheer will to survive, than pure strains.

You may already be well aware of this, if so soz, but, Pure African sat's etc can (and usually do) grow obscenely tall. They take a lot care to perform well indoors. SCROG may be a way to go with such a strechy type.

There are some luverly unique highs/tastes/aromas to be found in the slightly different regional strains. These Natural strains need to be kept in existence, yea use them in breeding programs and see what comes up, but keep the pure varieties circulating round, so a good, solid base is always available for future breeding/cultivating.

Best of luck if you give it a whirl. cool.gif

Thanks waterboy,
It says on the african seeds page that there up to 12 feet tall, my space is 8 feet tall so I could try nipping the tip out for a shorter plant.

Yes, I read recently that many strians have been forever lost due to careless cross breeding. cry.gif

Hi Dangerous Beans,

Rooibart and Redbeard are one in the same (just in different languages). Can't really say if there will be any differences between the seeds from Seedsman and African Seeds, but would be very intrested in any grow reports on either.smile.gif

Thought I might reply to this thread as I know a little bit about it - hope I don't get cut out as I have from other forums for apparently trying to get "free advertising" - in fact just trying to be informative.

As pointed out Swazi Roibart and Swazi Redbeard are the same strains just in different langauges.

Our Swazi Redbeard and The Swazi Roibart will be identical they are from the same growers.

We get our Swazi Redbeard from the same growers In Africa because this ensures that they are original genetics, because they come from the country of origin.

At the end of the day a plant will grow according to external factors (i.e. light, nutrients etc) that you the growers control along with the genetics that we source and control.

We try and provide only original genetics as this ensures that you are getting what you wanted. If they are not original genetics they could be similar or different. but not the same.

Swazi Redbeard has the potential to grow very tall because of its African sativa heritage. There are F1 hybrids available that are more suitable for indoor growing such as Swazi Safari or as we call it Swazi Skunk (think our name gives a better insight into the genetics - boom boom). It is similar to its natural landrace mother but will grow thicker buds. Personally I prefer the Redbeard but understand Swazi Skunk might be more suitable for some to grow.
