just a thought - are you wanting a not too smelly strain because you don't have a carbon filter?

You need to fill in your profile m8, some will take longer than others to finish so that's possibly a consideration for a first grow, odour isn't important if you buy the right equipment.... one of the Northern Lights strains would be a good, they smoke OK, are low odour and easy to control height wise, flavour is not all that but if it's your first grow you won't agree with that come harvest day!

no if i do this, ok wont cut it...i was also thinking about bubblegum but space is an issue, also jorge cervantes strain i have forgotten what its called but its indica dom so should be quite good height wise and great smoke! no wont get a carbon filter cant afford it, just loads of fans, one intake and a outake or summin. grew some nl5xhaze5 the first time was ok but got very little off three under a cfl, so gonna go for a hps this time dual spectrum most probably 600w maybe. any ideas?

Do yourself a favour and hold off until you can afford a carbon filter.......more important than choice of strain imho

WHY DOES EVERYONE SUGGEST BUYING CARB FILTERS ,MAYBE HE LIVES NEAR NOBODY AND IS NOT TOO WORRIED ABOUT SMELL,I DONT USE FILTERS AS I LIVE IN THE ASS HOLE OF NOWHERE.I WOULD RECCOMEND CHRONIC OR NL I AM CURRENTLY JUST ABOUT TO HARVEST NIRVANAS NORTHERN LIGHTS,QUIET IMPREESIVE PLANTS.

even if u live away from people theres always the chance of someone poppin round to read the meter or somthing like that, id rather be over worried than not worried enough and get caught tbh. also u can get a small 100mm filter for like 22 quid which when u consider what u will pay for a 600 watt light is nothing really.

biddy early is quite smell free , very very short and bushy with just an ok smoke , for your first time you cant really go wrong , it yeilds massively and is as easy as it gets to smoke , if you have never sampled proper loving and care grown home grown it will rock your world , master kush is another wheres the smell strain although that produces little and is lethal as a smoke , you dont finsh a 5 skinner of that to yourself i can tell yah
n/lights is also a reasonable smell free strain but can get large , i dont really rate the smoke on that either as you need the perfect 1 in a thousand plant to get the best from it
smells a hard thing , plants smell and theres no getting away from this , a scrubber can be your best friend but then smoking around the home normally shits on this idea anyways , if you get a big grow together then its a given to filter but smaller can be 50/50 and to play it safe id say work at getting smell under control , it will give you a much better strain choise if nothing else

In that case forget the carbon filter and grow what-ever strain you like........
but if you are after low-odour then smell must be of some concern. Stop it being a concern by buying a carbon filter......and grow whatever strain you like.......
Sorry I can't really help with a strain recommendation - I've not grown many strains but the only supposedly low odour strain I've grown was a Northern Lights cross - was great weed but it stank!

Ok if you live in the deep country and smell isnt a problem why are you worried about smell? Get a carbon filter you will just be paranoid if you dont during flowering

I'm toking it now, my pals just done one through, took 10 weeks to flower he recommends a massive root space loads a light and to top, nip out the very top meristem. He also left it in the dark for 4 days to kick out some of the height 2weeks in.
It tastes real good, needs lots of light though to get those white hairs swollen, he trimmed lots of the fan leaves and grew each plant in a 65 litre storage box in coco under 1.2KW / 2 X 600W HPS

Hola Tricky, Nl seems mentioned a lot in this thread, Ive done Nirvanas and it only started getting stinky toward the last 2 or 3 weeks, nothing like a skunk though. Nice smooth daytime smoke, not much taste, but always moorish. just got meself a carbon filter after a few years stress filled growing. Wouldnt be without it now, and cant believe the diff it makes. Got the sucking fan on 24/7 and only bolt the filter on when the terpenes start diffusing, worth the cash if theres neighbors about. Hope all goes well wateva u decide...Ed

cheers again everyone! well ed the neighbours arnt my worrie really, its my gf and parents! if i get a carbon filter im gonna need a loud fan which would give the game away!
also height is a real problem so im gonna have to bend these babys n flower them reasonably early i guess...any other height reducing tips?
planted them up this morning in root riot cubes, so hopefully soon there will be some seedlings in town!

Hmm u got a prob there trick, the fans are loud. Flowering early and bending seem ur best options for hieght control, Ive seen pics of plants grown almost horizontally so all the side branches grew upwards like individual colas-impressive, and something id do if height were a prob. as for smell, ive been desperate in the past, and improvised thus....Got an old 5 litre protein powder container and drilled holes all round it. Then got some the foot of some fishnet tights (not mine) and filled it with cotton wool, soaked this in a few containers worth of febreze and shoved it in the protein powder bucket with the top of the stockings folded over the neck of the container. Screwd the top on so the stockings were held in place. I made a big hole in the lid and stuck some 4 inch computer fans over it so it sucked air through the holes in the container, then the febreze soaked cotton wool and out the top of the lid. I shoved this in the growroom with the lid poking through a hole I cut in the roof of the room, and gaffer taped it all in place,It did the job till all the febreze evaporated, but it got me through a sticky moment with some house veiwers who were veiwing me old house. The house fkn stank of febreze for a while, but febreze is legal.Ive also lived on curry for the duration of a flowering cycle to disguise the smell

, and burnt toast does a top emergency cover up.

great idea! 1 problem tho, im basically growin in a cuboard with a roof as the top, i live above a garage in a small studio flat. so that would mean cutting through the new tyvek to get a fan blowing hot air out through the tiles.
worst thing happened today was testing the temperatures and it hit 40 ! have to find a good way of getting heat out through the roof without damaging it.. any ideas would be amazing!

this might annoy you slightly but the best way to get that temp down is airflow, the noise of the bigger RVK fans and such can be cut using fan controllers and baffles, have a look on the D.I.Y. kit section i cant remember who but someone had a genius home made fan silencer made out of a couple of paint buckets, and thats probably just one of a fair few ideas to the same end. good luck either way

cheers buddy will look into that, im thinking about dropping down to 250w bulb, easiest way i guess of lowering that temp , but still need fresh air coming in might have to cut some holes in my roof!
