I was wondering whats the smallest pot size you growers would use for flowering. I actually use rockwool slabs, but i was wondering if large 3 liter rockwool cubes would be ok for flowering a plant. I am thinking the plant would start flower at about 12 ".

In a thread on Bonsia Mums. 'Oldtimer1' recommends trimming the tap root to encourage feeder roots, which are the correct type of roots for restricted root growth areas. ie a Pot. so I was wondering if this would also apply to a large rockwool cube/small Pot ??

I hope someone can help with this question

thanks

On my first grow, I managed to do them in 5 litre pots (uneducated at the time) but still managed to pull around 3-4 oz off my plants.

However, they were struggling, towards the end, to hold water in, so I had to basically flush them with feed to ensure the water had soaked in. Lessons learnt, but got away with it. They were severly root bound though at the end, it was just a solid block of roots with little to no medium left.

My current pots are 15 litre, but I think they are a bit too big really. The roots still have plenty room left at the end. Stepping back down to 10/11 litre pots for the next grow.

As the guys have already said, bigger pots = more roots = more buddage.

But I've seen people flower in 330ml drinks cans so theres not really a lower limit, all depends on your situation. 3L will be fine if you've not got the option

Is that per plant? Seems rather a high yield for a compost grow in 5 litre pots unsure.gif

I use 11 litre for clones and have just started using 5.5 litre for seed plants - these ones are pretty deep for their area.

e2a whoops sorry.

Do you want depth? I'm genuinly asking here as it would make sense

I reckon it helps, as their always seems to be a thicker swirl of roots at the base. deffo helps to retain moisture, and you can fit 4 per 11 litre.

What size pot you use all depends on how much per plant you are realistically wanting to yield

Twas indeed. They were all heavy yielders, so probably struck lucky to some extent. They were all quite short though, 3' max coz, I was a bit eager putting them into flower unsure.gif

To be fair, i've only beat that twice since. Must of been the extra love I gave them as a noobie. I got a total of 15oz off 4 plants, although I did top them, and give the bottom halves an extra 10 days to puff up the popcorn.

I've just yioelded between half ounce and one and three quarter ounces from a variety of plants flowered in 3.5litre pots......

I always flower in 3.5litre pots....

I expect (on average, depending on strain) about an oz per pot......but it can vary greatly, biggest factor is strain....

You don't happen to remember what strain they were do you drfish? how long veg time did you give em? Sorry for all the questions, just I have only ever hit 2.5oz in an 11litre pot sad.gif

You will have to post a diary and show us how you do it wink.gif

Unknown strains mate, other than they were off a mate and his quote was "I've grown some of these, and they were all massive yields".

2 were very smelly, probably a skunk of some sort, the other two were definitely very Sat dominant, and a blueish tone to the end product.

I put it down to beginners luck to be honest. As I said, i've only beat it twice in 15 litre pots

Generally speaking, yes, although, due to excitement, I probably rushed the first lot a bit, but it was probably only 3 days early tops.

Ok, i'll elaborate, the weight quoted was circa 10 days after crop. It was just over 50oz wet.

Hi Dr

Just looked at your profile

can you tell me more about your ventilation?

Are there no fan in and out ?

many thanx

It was in my boiler room in the bathroom, with an open door which I left open in the day, and just an air vent for night time.

There was always a nice fresh flow of air into and out of the room. I am moving to a new house though in a couple of weeks, where I dont have such luxury, so ventilation and filters have been purchased and are being installed this weekend.

I was fortunate in that the position of the room gave nothing away, unless someone needed to use my bathroom. In which case, a quick blag was sought, and the door was closed and locked.

Only really became a problem on a couple of very smelly grows I did (Cheese and Skunk). The whole house stunk of it. Thank the lord for incense and glade plug ins cool.gif

Edit - Forgot to say, there was also a 12" Oscillating floor standing fan in there, on 24/7/365. Til it caught fire the other week. It had done around 10000 hours service tho, so not bad for £30
