I've just bought a bluelab truncheon coz i was advised that they were the best but now i need a ph tester pen (im currently using the little vial- you add a few drops of reagent to ya water and then compare to the lil colour chart and i hate doing it, it annoys the fuck out of me!!)

What is the best ph tester pen??

ive just been the the eutech site and was a bit overwhelmed by the range of products!! i would like to know what everyone else uses to test their ph please guys. I want an easy to use, reliably accurate pen, that i dont have to calibrate(if poss?).

I got a essencials 1 and its wank spend the £ and learn to use a good 1. As far as im I know all electronic meters need to be re-callibrated every so often. Im saving for a trunchon 1 too at the min as they seem to be popular. Im looking for one that will do ec and ph if possible but I wont try and scrimp again as important as the plants you grow in hydro

all ph meters need calibrating
the eutech ph tester 2 is a good meter
ya can also replace the probe instead of keep buying new meters
they cost about £70
ya can get cheaper meter like the horticare ones they not a bad meter but not as good as eutech

You could get a constant reading jobby with mains transformer, inbuilt nicads and replaceable bnc gel-filled ph probe on a 10ft lead for about the same money. The replacement probes are about £17, mines over 2 years old and still calibrates ok.

I've got one of the 'pH PAL' hobby pH meter pens (as sold in a chain of grow-shops for about £39.00 (I bought one when they were reduced)).
At first I was hesitant 'cos it looked like the cheap & cheerful option and I was looking for something a little more permanent/durable.
But TBH it's one of the best purchases I've made - the probe appears to have lasted over a year so-far, I've replaced the batteries once and I generally find I have to recallibrate it about once a month if that...
Maybe I scored a good'un, but buying a pen was the most cost-effective option for me...
Cheers
