I got a question. I have a 400 watt light and this is my second grow. Do think i could use soft whites during 12/12(light 3 of them)? Or is that idead i peice of ?

If not what is the next cheapest but best light i can get?

Hi,

Assuming your 400W is an HPS, you could use the soft whites for 24 hour veg up to a certain point (What wattage are your soft whites?) and flower with the 400W. This would probably be better than the other way around.

The expert. on this site will be able to help you make a sound plan but will need more info on your set-up.

K thanks yes the 400 watt is a HPS and the cool whites are 100 watts

-when you're doing calculations, the wattage thing is very confusing - you'd need around twenty compact fluoresecents to equal the amount of light given out by a 400w hps! (they are punted as being the equivalent of a 100w conventional lightbulb, but are in fact only around 20w) - If you want something cheap for vegging, use blue or daylight balanced cfs or fluorescents - or better still, an envirolite!
