just germinated some tomatillos, has anyone grown these in a UK greenhouse? Just googled them and it said to plant the seeds 2 months before the last frost! that would make me a bit late pinch.gif is that right?

Not done any this year, I usually grow them outside Lat: 51.51, sow when I do toms plant out about the third week of may.

Depend on the summer, last year was wet and cold so only a few ripened, most years they crop mid to late august through to the first really cold, about oct. They produce loads of tasty fruit.

Under glass the plants can get huge, you will have no problems getting crops even sowed this late, like toms once you have fruit set, high potash feeds once a week will encourage early ripening and tasty fruits.

Thanks for the reassurance, I'm at 57' is that too far north for outside do you think? I've never seen a tomatillo, let alone tasted one.... I can foresee a "are these ready yet?" post come summer!

Thanks again

If you can grow tomatoes outside in your area, tomatillos should also ripen, they would be better under glass or plastic, they have a papery outer it becomes brittle or splits once they ripen, the fruits yellow a bit and become softer, so if the fruit is soft the bite test will tell you, not sure about purple or orange vars only grown green ones.

Thanks again!
