(Found the above on eBay, but i don't think eBay links can be posted here)

I am just stocking up on some stuff before my first grow, i have little money at the moment, and i'm on a budget of £60 (right now) to buy a greenhouse/poly tunnel type thing, to grow my first batch.

Would the above thing be any good? If not, could someone show me a good item for ~£60 that would be good for growing in? My only option is to grow outside, as i have a younger sister in the house, and it would be too obvious.

Thanks everyone.

(Also, off-topic, but what were the tablet type things for germinating with? I saw someone used some and they got soem good reviews, but i can't remember what they're called)

Think ya mean jiffa pellets. That greenhouse would be ok to start them off but dont think it would do for the full length of the grow as the plants will out grow it.

Yeah that's them, thanks.

So, do you think it would be better starting them off in one of the cold frames like above, or do you think an electric propagator for my windowsill would be better to start them off, then move them to a bigger pot inside a poly tunnel in the garden?

Again, i am 100% new to this and don't want to make mistakes stoned.gif

I'd recommend starting them in a small pot of compost. Fill the pot, make a small hole with your little finger in the centre of the pot about half an inch deep, drop the seed in, cover with compost and water a little, don't saturate the whole pot. After this I find it doesn't matter what you do in terms of where you leave them to germinate, as long as it's done indoors. I either use a dark cupboard or the windowsill, just be careful not to let them dry out.

I think buying this would be a waste of money - as Rainman says, it will be no good once your plants are bigger.

There are various propagating techniques, - straight into soil in small pots is one I also use, others use the wet paper towel method. You have mentioned window-sill growing - so if you have a sunny one, you could grow them there until they reach a decent height to put them out.

Depending on what seeds you have, the height of your plant will be approximately say 5ft (at least - at a guess) - so a greenhouse/polytunnel is the way to go - and you can also grow other things there as well like peppers, tomatoes and edible herbs.

I have all mine outside in the garden at the moment - in 3litre pots - I am planning to keep them outside (only because the trees and shrubs in next door's gardens have grown tall and have taken most of the sun from my greenhouse now) - and maybe - once they are flowering, if weather is bad or raining, I can put them inside to perhaps minimise any rot. Luckily I have lots of shrubs in my garden that I can hide these plants quite well if necessary.

Also, if you look on Ebay there are many polytunnels available either bidding or buy now -in various lengths 10, 12 or 15ft

Good luck with what you decide.

Thats OK if you are going to harden of plants before putting the plants in the ground,
If you can start off the seeds in the house somewhere warm and get the seedlings.
what are you going to do with them?
Growing outside is fine so long as you have found a good spot away from the house
unless of course you have no neighbors, and are right out in the wilds
because dependent of what strain you are growing,Smell will be a big factor?
