Well, hi everyone, i'm a new member here, as you can see from my post count stoned.gif

Anyway, i am working up towards my first ever grow! I have ordered 3 seeds to start with.

I am looking to build a green house/polytunnel (A cross between the two, call it a walk in polytunnel lol.gif)

My dad is helping me build the frame, from some 1" piping, which won't be a problem for us, but my main question is, where do i get the polythene covers from? What sort so i need? What colours do i need? How do i attach it? What colour should i have the floor? Would i need a heater in there at night? Do i need any reflective materials inside there?

I have read a couple of DIY polytunnel tutorials online, but failed to find anything to answer my questions.

Thanks if you can help me, i have a few more questions, but my mind's gone blank spliff.gif

You are best off buying a full pollytunnel kit compleat with a proper frame + heat tape, wood for doors and cover etc, a thermal cover is best.

DIY making your own frame is a total mare.

You don't need a floor, you till/cultivate the ground inside the tunnel and grow in the soil.

You don't need a heater.

The usual way is to bury the cover film at the edges of the frame.

Hey mate,

Can't offer any advice but good luck with the poly tunnel constructions, I'm sure your plants will love it.

Good luck with the growing wink.gif

Trenches are the cheapest way, the downside is you can`t use a strimmer near the buried poly.
A new cover should last 5 years so I reckon its worth the extra cost to use 2x4 ground rails to attach the poly, its definitely a lot easier than digging wink.gif

To give you an idea of prices, a 14m x 11.1m cover, 9 rolls of anti hotspot tape and a 3 rolls of 2" repair tape came to around £130 including the vat and delivery.

Good luck with the build.
