Pressing Small Amounts For Smoking

Sometimes I am asked by people how I press hashish, these people normally have a small amount that they have collected from their space case grinders or something similar. Here I will show how I press bubble hash from bubblebags prior to smoking. There is no difference whether the crystals are produced via bubblebags or through dry sifting as this method will work well with both aslong as the trichomes are not contaminated with leaf material or debris.

Here I have ran a lighter over the top to show how the resin melts, this indicates a high quality especially when still in its raw resin form, ie: unpressed.


Ok ready to press a small amount for smoking, first off take a wrapper from a cigarette, tobacco packet or a sandwich bag. Here I have used a sandwich bag as I am a non tobacco smoker although some may argue that a cigarette packet wrapper is better. I also have a roach or filter handy to scoop the resin into place.


Place some resin into the cellophane wrapper or the sandwich bag

Wrap the plastic around the resin so that it falls to the bottom of the bag or cellophane wrap encasing it at the bottom.


Wrap the plastic tighter and squeeze it down into the bottom.


Press fimly with your thumb and index finger to form a wedge of hash, no heat has been applied here only pressure.

After the plastic is unwrapped this is the result, roughly pressed hashish.


I then put the hash back inside the plastic and boiled a cup of water. Once boiled the hash was submersed into the boiling water inside the plastic for around 40 to 60 seconds I then removed it from the water and pressed it with the underside of a kitchen plate, it was the put into the freezer for 5 mins. This is the result, you can see the resin is alot darker for the heat and pressure now.


Cut and broken open it does have a greasy texture about it, ready to be smoked now.


Thats how I press small amounts for smoking.

Good thread! ..i pretty much do the same but as said on smaller scale from the crystal catcher and with out the hot water bit. I just rub the thc between my thumb and index finger, this makes loads of tiny sausages, i then role it into one. Then use a heat mat on warm to role it out completely to 1/2mm sausages to spread along a nice zooty, love a good cocktail

Very nice looking first off, I bet that will be a treat! I load mine into a pollen press and set it on a heater I have that gets around 208F for 20 min turning and tightening every 5. I may try the water method on the next batch I do hand-rubbed though, as it looks interesting. Btw I do dry-sift hash.

Thanks, hopefully someone will find it useful. I have tried pressing it in my hands before but was paranoid of losing trichomes this way I am more sure that no valuable resin is wasted.

Yes I have a friend who does a similar thing with his dry sift except he puts his polm press into boiling water for 3 mins a time with the polm inside and tightens it and puts it back in for another 3 mins. He repeats this until he cannot screw the press any tighter and then removes the hash and smokes it.

First 3 are almost FMCD hash, it bubbles nicely but it not quite full melt still it smokes ok











Last one is slightly out of focus, oh well.

Excellent diagrams m8, I just done my first bubblerun I did two actually . 3 really cause I did the second batch twice. I was wondering what I had to do tov it before smoking
What about large quantities

Hi The Villain, hope you are well .

You can press larger quantities the same way, just put the resin inside two or three separate bags before submerging it in boiling water as you don't want the bag splitting with larger amounts.
After removing from the boiling water press it hard underneath a plate or something heavy and then put it in the freezer for 10 mins, open after 10 mins and job should be a good un.

Ive been looking at the biggest set of bubble bags that fit inside an empty dustbin , might have to get me a set of those one day.

I should imagine that if it does not press up first time this way then the quality is inferior (contaminated with plant debris or not enough resin heads). Try re pressing it again in the palms of your hands, work the resin well between your fingers, thumb and palms for between 10 and 15 mins. If it does not press up this way then it is definitely inferior quality but would probably be good for cooking with or having as a more mellow smoke .

Alright Hash. Nice pictures man. Does it work with warm water instead of boiling water. I'm starting to think the least amount of heat that gets used in the processes of making hash the better. When ever I make budder from now on I'll not be using any heat at all. Even during the oil phase when I used to heat the butane with water to evaporate it quicker, I'll stop doing that and be patient. I'm sure I get better results without any heat applied during the processes. Does look nice though man, sure it smokes a treat. For small amounts like that you can probably put together a press with a screw mechanism. That would be quite sweet too. Nice one. Like those photos and that hash looks good.

I am not sure about water temps below boiling as I have not experimented with this as of yet TBH, I think your theory about as little heat as possible is certainly an interesting one to be sure. I mainly use the boiling water method when I want to smoke a dark/black piece of hash as I find the heat and the pressure effects the color through oxidization and makes it darker.
