Well if it's legit, then it should pass the WGA check.

Turn your updates off, my copy of windoze was identified as a pirate copy last time I did an update. Just turned off the auto updates.

But you *need* the security patches, and if your copy's already been marked as 'pirated', then it won't make any odds - you can still download and install those essential updates.

Agreed, iv just applied the xp genuine validation tool, message has gone and now it claims i have original, cool

just got start then programs select windows update then wen browser load select

search custom

then find wga on the list expand it and select dont show this update again

turn auto update back on and it wont try and install it anymore

I was under the impression that it causes problems in the future when you fail the check ,
such as the pc stopping working at some random point within a couple of months of it failing
or do i need to visit the tinfoil hat emporium

my main desktop failed the check a couple of weeks ago .
i think it was an ex office / school computer and it had a volume license key
anyhow i thought fuck em and had a go with linux
unfortunately i fell at the second hurdle trying to run it from a pen drive ( the motherboard wont boot from usb ) and my version of pendrive linux has some file missing
, i'll look into it again at some point in the future , so for now i'm on my in-laws old pc with the wifes old hdd & copy of xp.

I got a message before saying that my legit' copy of xp was a pirate copy, I tried to get a new serial from them and they refused to give me one so i downloaded a new serial and an activator.

Nope - doesn't work like that - if your copy is designated as 'not genuine', it will still work (as Win ever does ) but it will only let you install essential security patches from then on. (and not non-essential things like the latest version of Media Player/DirectX etc., although there's nothing stopping you from downloading those things from elsewhere)
