I've received a couple of emails now from someone that I've emailed in the past but isn't on my contact list, but that I know didn't send them. I use hotmail, now do you think this is because I've got a trojan or summat, or do you think it's being sent from their email addy cos they have got summat nasty ? Cos I scan my PC fairly regularly with antivirus software, adaware, spybot S&D etc and it's generally clean. Do I need to get in touch with them to tell them their PC may be compromised, or do I need to do some serious scanning of mine ?
Cheers (don't really bother me to be honest, I know it's not a real email from them cos of the title so I just bin it without opening it, but if it's their machine I feel I should let them know).

Someone I know had their email hacked and emails were sent to everyone on their contact list that they were in the UK on a business trip and had their money and cards stolen and needed money to pay for the hotel bills and to fly home to America and it was requesting that the person reading the email sent them something like $5000 to cover the costs which would be repayed when they returned home and got things sorted out, People rang them to tell them about the emails and it turned out they had had their account hacked. So if it is something similar to that then you could do with contacting the person and informing them. If it is nothing to do with the above ignore me for rambling

It's nowt like that, just spam, but I think it's a spam email that if I open I'll regret having opened it - you know, a spam email trying to get me to open it cos of an attachment or summat (maybe that's just paranoia, I aint opening one to find out

). I just don't wanna panic the person it purports to come from if it's something to do with a virus/trojan/adware/spyware/whatever on my computer. Cos although I use adaware & spybot, I'm a bit slack with antivirus, I mostly just use the trend online one and the zone alarm scan.
Cheers though

Are you on your contact list? If your address isn't on your contact list your friend's caught something nasty. If it is it could be either of you. Give the puter a full scan with whatever your using. I'm using Comodo atm which seems to be doing the job. And tell your mate to check his puter.

Get yourself a copy of Kasperski Internet Security (Not AV), it's about £10 a year for a single user license, and it's the best on the market by far, especially if your PC is a little old and slow.
All the free ones are well and good, but hammer your PC. I'm an IT pro, and Kaperski is by far the best i've used.
(Apologies if i've breeched any advertising rules, but this is a personal recommendation)
Zone Alarm is rubbish unless you get the pro version, which costs money.
