Im looking to make my rvk250 a box to reduce some of the noise, I know it will need 2 x 10" holes on each side.

what kind of material will i need to put in it to keep the noise down,

does anyone have some type of guide?

If you don't want noise your better off concentrating on the air movement noise. Baffle maybe. Acoustic ducting is great stuff. The fans themselves aren't what make a noise. It's the air being moved which is usually responsible for the noise.

There are multiples of threads in this section about it.

i know what you mean, but this 10" fan does hum quite loud, i can hear it above the ground from underneigh the whole 1st floor of the house. sounds like a hoover muffled

if your using a speed controller, that could be your issue as it makes them buzz. try hard wiring it and see if it makes a difference, as the buzzing is very hard to muffle i'm afraid, might be better with a variac controller.....
browns
silence the air as above and make a silenced box. Easiest way is to connect ducting...cover fan with cling film and put in a box. make the box fit around the fan and fill with squirty foam. Also make sure u hang the fan off bungee cords so there is no contact with a hard surface.

one love

nope not using a speed controller yet.

going to try browns idea, costs a little sweat but its cheap.

if that fails to contain the noise ill go to transformer controller

browns - Is that squirty foam the yellow stuff? does it come in cans, and can it be removed from the outside of the fan if i need to sell/move/replace it?

You can use bubble wrap instead of foam mate.

nope, ill get some and try it,

at the time of the test my cousin was holding the fan, so im assuming that vibrations would not be the reason for the noise

Heya Logik , i copied S Monkeys design here , im on an 8" and to be honest as stated the air movement was more the issue in the end , good luck .
