I work in the catering industry, and have got a few very rare days off coming up. (3 days off for the 1st time since november)

i really want to go to the dam, never been before, but everyone else i no is working or skint.

is it worth going to the dam for a long weekend on my own?

i dont mind my own company, or meetin new people...

take a good book, and sample some of the best weed in the world??

i guess what i need to no is...
can u still have a good time on ur own in amsterdam?

sure you'll have a great time, probably meet more people if you stay in a hostel rather than a hotel.

and there are sum hostels with room left around 20 euros a night.

Dont worry about muggings, just keep with the crowds and you will be OK, just keep your wits about you, find a nice coffee shop and chill out there.

A local? Unless you're waring union jack boxer shorts and a hankie on your head I doubt they'd have a clue

Last time we went, we stayed in a hostel and met quite a few people who were there solo, am sure you will find someone to go for a toke with.

Id only worry about being mugged if your totally wasted in the red light district on your own.

aint been to the dam in ages now, but you should check out rastababy go right out of the train station and follow the main road for about a half mile, the do fat deals and aint as over priced or crowded as some of the other shops, i'e the grey area. also one to go to for hash is the popeye, they do some lovely morrocan and they got this bigarsed dog which you will shit your pants when you see, you have to walk past him to get to the counter. i love that place the celing is trippy with all clouds and stuff painted on it,

I have been several times to the dam on my own never ever felt like i was gonna get mugged, but mind you i'm6'3 and about 15 stone, i had the best time on my own as you can just do what you want. may i suggest you goto the anne frank house thats a bit of an eye opener when you coinsider the attic held 40 people, also the torture museum, dont just sit there in a cooffee shop theres loads of stuff to see aswell.

oh and one other suggestion, if your gonna bring any back stick to the hash and plug it, dont do the weed cos now matter how well you wrap it it will be very uncomfortable on the plane ride back, i speak from experience, i was walking like a cripple when i came home,

Ive gone alone a couple of times and had no problems.
If its your first visit I could imagine your a bit para but Chill. Its no more dangerous than any other big town or city.

I have always been with friends to Amsterdam but once there usually do my own thing as they are more into their drink than smoke! The one evening I was so high, lost all sense of direction, everywhere looked the same with the canals and I couldn't remember the name of my hotel. I made it back at 5am, personally I have found Amsterdam a very safe city, not felt threatened or in danger at any time.

Alrite mate, i am just back from the dam on mon, fuckin great, my 8th time and just keeps on gettin better and better!!
I've been twice on ma todd and never had any bother, just stay away from the black and turkish street dealers, for anything!!!
Prices were not too bad as long as you keep away from the rastababy, smokeys and a few others in the red light.
Central coffee shop at the station does great deals and hasv a great selection. I got 5g of super polm for 25euro and was lovely.
Hunters has La confidential for 13 euro a g and is different class.
My fav is the Rojkery at the Leidesplien, nice dealer, beautiful waitresses and nice weed/hash. Buy the laughin buddha and chocolope haze....mmmmmm.
Try the ph 89 from Central, 1.9g for 12.50 not the strongest, but fuck me, what a tasty smoke.
All in all don't be worried about gion yersel, just don't act like alot of the arsehole brits that give all us full timers a bad name.

You will enjoy dam even on your ownmdont be to worried about the muggung thing,just dont stop to speak to the street dealers or beggers,when i was there alone 2 morroccan geezers tried to seperate me from the crowds down a lil side street,just be confident and tell them u aint interested in anything they got 2 say and step round them,afterall they prey on the weak,confidence is key.Failing that go to a shop called old man of amsterdam just off Dam square and tool up,stab vests and switch blade central

You will have great time. I would also recommend staying in a hostel as a great way of meeting people, although you will meet people in the coffee shops as well.
I have been about 20 times in the last 5 years, and my mate was pickpocketed, he had his wallet in his back pocket! The worst area is around the red light district, you will get lots of people asking you if you want coca, xtc etc, DO NOT BUY, it is almost always shit, I know from bitter experience.
You will love it, it's the best city in the world.

Nevilles haze was the only green I could get that would touch me, that was from Jokers I think. I found a lot of the stuff there very samey when I was there a couple of months ago. Years ago the Grasshopper was the last place to buy weed from as it never seemed as good as stuff deeper into the town, now it seems every place sells that sort of stuff. Ask around. For the record I went back to a coffee shop that sold the best weed I'd ever smoked 'Blueberry Misty' Did they sell it now - no same shite as everywhere. I was only there 3 days but I'm sure there's some great stuff to be toked if u know the right people. Doesn't seem any more shady than any other city,

Been twice to Holland on my own (others pulling out etc), first time was hard, it was febuary and freezing, didnt take enough dough for accomodation, just went to get seeds from a sensi outlet, (didnt fancy getting em sent to my home)(it was different back in 1990), anyways spent one night in a freezing bus top in Rotterdam, maaan i was so cold when I walked I couldnt walk straight (shivering), the second time i went It was in the summer of the same year I think, slept like a baby on Hoek beach (nice and sandy)......All the other times I went with friends which is best, however if u go on your own at least you can do what u want when u want. P.S, dont wander to much around in a place called Hoek as theres a large council type of estate there and the lights are real dim, mind you, u going to the dam so no probs there... if u dont mind your own company u be fine,
