'noon all

Just thought i might start a chilli thread, so it consildates all the existing chilli threads into 1 small thread.

Anyways, lets get to it, whats everyone growing this year then?

I personally already have a Cayenne Chilli plant, giving about 40 green chillis at the moment, 2 Scotch Bonnets, 4 Asian Birdseye and i got 10 Numex Twilights which came through the post.

Will be a fruitful season for me, will overwinter probably all of them too, what chilli's are everyone growing this year?
MartininLondon
I got a mixture but I was stoned when I planted so did not pay attention to labelling or writing down.

Can remember Cayenne, Jalapeno lol.gif

Will put some pics up.

Good idea Snake

I've got little plants of 'Kung Pao' grown, they are doing well apart from being a little bit twisted and aphid munched at the top, but this seems to happen every year and they seem to grow away o.k..and I have got seeds for 'Andy' and 'Joes Long Red' but I'm not sure if I'm going to get around to sowing them now... unsure.gif

I think they are pretty hot though, and I've got about 10, so it should keep me in mouth burning for a while anyway.
rixy
It's got to be Naga Morich and Bhut Jolokia for me, I like it hot hot HOT!

I did Numex Twilight and Pimiento de Padron last year and I thought they were both great. The Numex was really colourful too.

When did you start your Cayenne?

I'm doing 'Heatwave' & a 'Tropical Heat Mix'........I've had little success in previous years with chillis, but this will be my first time with a greenhouse this year, so I hope to do a lot better.
Seedlings are up......I'm excited w00t.gif

Bumper crops y'all smile.gif

ETA - what does everyone do with their harvest? what storage methods do you use?...........the one time I've had a decent amount from a plant, I tried to pickle them, but it didn't seem to turn out well sad.gif
Hopefully this year, I'll get enough to do a nice line of dried chillis in the GH
Snake
Got my plant from a garden centre last year around this time and brought it inside over winter, it survived and now its producing plenty of chillis=]

pickling works, i prefer to dry them, just hang them in with your drying buds smile.gif they take a while , crack the tops and squeeze to make sure they aren't moldy and are proper dry.

the mother in law heats them in oil and then jars up the oil and the chillis, loverly for frying tomatoes.

this year i am doing hot wax, demon red, tokyo hot, choclate habenero, + assorted sweet peppers and a whole load of second generation seeds all random crosses from last years
j'mapplepot
i grew an apache chilli last year and its the first time i realised the fungus gnat my seemingly unstoppable enemy, but this year im trying out jalapino's and some f1 piros so hopefully ill get some nice juicy babies.

First time chilli grower here too!

I've been gifted 7 strains by a good mate: Cherry Bomb, Jalapeno, Habanero, Lemon, Thai Rainbow, Dorset Naga and Pumpkin.

The biggest is the Jalapeno and it stands about 6" at the moment.

This same mate pointed out the Peter Pepper to me a few weeks back and yes, they are hilarious aren't they.
green_machine
my first year with chillis as well

I have

pimentoes
hungarian yellow hot wax
apache's

the first 2 started from seeds, the last one was bought from my local garden centre.

Dont really know what to expect though, but I will be happy with anything

Cheers for the storage tips Noodler thumbsup.gif

Mine are making slow progress in the unheated conservatory, but picking up now the warmer weather is here.
Should hopefully complete greenhouse construction this weekend......I'll be happier once they got their permanent home.

I've already had to spray my young seedlings for white-fly.....i hate the little tw*ts.
My chillis always seem to be a magnet for them and I made some plants ill using SBPI last year.....just a word of warning for anyone stoned.gif

You can also chuck 'em in the freezer. wink1.gif

This year I'm doing jalapeno, cayenne long thin, bird eye, romanian hot and a repeat of naga morich from last year. Chili peppers are perennial, and if you can overwinter them somewhere frost-free they will regrow the following year.

Not sure what they are, but they're small, red, hot and growing on my kitchen windowsill.

Lovely looking plant there Zappa!

Well at the moment my scotch bonnets are growing larger and larger, just put them outside to soak up some sun, the Cayennes are beginning to ripen up and turn red, 30-40 odd chillis on there, very impressed and chuffed smile.gif

Numex Twilights are stille extremely small seedlings, however everything will be overwintered since the next year the growth and the yields are huge!

Greeny
Numex Twilights - I love the sound of those! That's a lovely plant you hav there Zappa.

It's pretty late but you can always transfer them to the window sill inside once it gets too cold for them..... saving that you can buy the plants still.... I got my Scotch Bonnet as plants from B&Q
BioBuzz
Cool biggrin.gif going to B&Q to have a look tomorrow, cheers v.gif

Our local one had none yesterday, they were selling all the last of the stock off, Tesco had Apache chilli plants for about £1.50 a piece which would see you through this year if you were desperate.

It could be Fiesta. It's on my list for next year after seeing an old Gardener's World programme - in a trial it produced the most peppers per plant.
Snake
My Cayenne chillis are beggining to turn red, anyone know whether they'll produce another batch in autumn?
billious
In my experience if you pick the fruit and don't let them dry on the plant then they will set new flowers again soon and as long as they don't get too cold they will carry on cropping right through into winter
Tutu
Naga Jolokia mainly planning on keeping a mum in veg over winter and next year having a stab at hydro in the greenhouse (Probably using ebb and flow as I've heard this is the best hydro system if water temps are too high and pythium could be a porblem).
Randalizer
This ism y first vegetable garden ever and I got an an Anaheim chili. I might go to the garden centre and get more. We have a long growing season over here.
cjcj121
Zappa from the look of your plant i would say it was a prairie fire .

This year i am growing :
Ring of fire
Hungarian hot wax
Twilight
Antillais caribbean ( scotch bonnet )
Sweet banana
cayenne
apache

Not brave enough to try Bhut Jolika yet but its on my list
foobs
I'm growing 2 Naga Jolokia, 2 Bhut Jolokia seeds and 2 Fatalii. They are outside and have got holes in the leafs I think they may be under attack. I can't see any greenfly since I sprayed them with soapy water, could be some stealth caterpillar?

I grew a few Scotch Bonnets last year and they were pretty fiesty. No idea how these are yet as they are not even flowering yet.
cjcj121
Bhut jolokia is supposedly the worlds hottest at over 1'000'000 scu fancy having a go with them let me know how you get on with them wink1.gif

How easy are the bhut jolokais to grow?
Tutu
My naga's haven't shown any fruit yet, I'm giving them away to friends to take inside (I can only greenhouse 1 or 2 myself.) and hopefully there'll be something to clone next March and I'm going to get them fired up under an MH before putting them out May.

I intend to grow a few hundred Naga's next year this year was only to get a mum/dad.

Going to try a couple of amazon's full of them in a greenhouse as well.
rorymullan
Any idea how hot one will get grown in a greenhouse in the uk. Heard they are very weather dependent so wouldnt 1000000 su.

Hi fellow cannabis/chilli growers.

I am trying to find information on how to grow chillies indoors but Google isn't of any help today. I actually found a thread on Google that linked to a thread on UK420 a thread done by Dohped and his light cycle questions never got answered.

I'm going to throw a chilli plant or 2 in with my cannabis plants so wanted to see how different the light cycle is etc

I pressume as seedlings they take the normal 18/6 Vegetation light cycle.

Then to flower do I put into 12/12 light cycle or do they just grow chillies under 18/6 cycle?

How long is the Veg period + the flowering period (just for a rough estimate as to how long they take to grow).

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
