my fan is SO noisy, i am using a flexible silencer and have moved the fan into the tent but its still well noisy. My tent is in the room opposite to my bedroom and i can hear it across the hall with doors shut so i really worry that next door can hear it. sad.gif How can i shut the lil bugger up?? i've thought about making an padded box to muffle it......any ideas ....what works the best??

hi marley,

i know what ya mean mate my fans are noisey too

the reason its not a prob for me is my house is semi and me
GR is the side with no neighbours 13.gif

but in your case yea you can make a box to go around em
i have seen threads somewhere on here about diff methods.

have a look around

good luck

What make is it? And do you have ducting fitted to both ends? 9/10 it's the noise of the air rushing through it that you can hear.....

hi fella, making a box for a silencer will help, as will acoustic ducting. I use a primair controller, and had real issues with the buzzing noises. when i upgraded my fans from tt to rvk's my fans make no real buzzing noises anymore.... only sound i can hear really is the air rushing about, but i am happy with this as when i am in my bedroom i can just hear it if its quiet, so it acts as a bit of a safety precaution, tells me the fans are working... I had problems designing my current growroom, and had to move my fan out of the room as the vibration was going down the wall i share with a neibhour...

theres a l,ot of ways to reduce the sound, good luck mate.

As Ordinaryguy touched on there the use of a speed controller will help LOADS.

I used a Primair too and as soon as I configured it the fans run at a low speed and so are 1000 times more quiet.

There are a number of different fan controlers avaliable.

ive tried a couple of fan controllers but they actually made the fan louder,
a variac type controller is the only type that didnt make a nasty humming sound google it or use the search on here.
might be worth getting an over sized fan so you only need to use it at 50% power.

if its the air sound itself im not sure if theres a lot you can do about that

its the actual fan making the noise, i have put padding around the silencer and put a cross of gaffer tape over the opening(which i thought would make it noisier but doesnt!) this has reduced the whooshing sound immensely. im gonna put the fan back in the box it came in and pad it out with something, i havent figured what yet though.....

You put a cross of gaffer tape over the end of the silencer air comes out of and it made a big difference? Hmm that sounds good, might give it a try.

I used two pillows and sowed them togther around the fan, someone also mentioned at the time adding bubblewrap also, I also use a primair and this has cut the noise down alot.

roof insulation has hardly any sound proofing qualities whatsoever, better off getting a roll of Isover from somewhere like jewsons its used as sound proofing for walls and is also a fire rated.
