Would it be of any benefit using granules when potting up from 1" cubes to 3" prior to them being put in NFT's or Aquafarms?

Granules AFAIK are for compost, why use them in a hydro system where you, again AFAIK are not subject to the same fungal issues that composts are.

The granules will be fine to pour into the hole of the rockwool cube. The Mycorrhiza will still form the symbiotic relationship with the plants roots, the 20 strains of micro organisms will also populate the root zone.

Once rooted through the larger cubes it is a good idea to dust / sprinkle the roots with the granules too.

Just bare in mind though, the use of H2o2 will kill off any beneficial fungi and bacteria, so if you are using the granules you may have to think twice for using the H2o2

Am quite surprised at that, I really thought as I have heard the pros advise on here that any chemical ferts used in hydro when added to compost would kill off any micro herd, so I couldn't grasp that the micro organisms in the granules when used in hydro system would survive.

IMHO there is little value adding granules to a rock wool environment, of all the microbe spores in granules, only trichoderma would probably thrive and inhabit the root zone, mychorrizal are unlikely to thrive, there is nothing for them to live off, in soil they extract minerals from rock particles and humus and exchange the nutrients they extract for sugars from the plant sap stream. Other bacteria in the granules do things like mine locked phosphate or fix nitrates, there is absolute nothing for them in a medium drenched in root usable chemical salts, ie nothing for them to live off of, in fact they are inhibited in a high level free nutrient environment.

Thanks for all the replies you guys a lot of info there not everyone agreeing though!! Mr Plant magic says it would be ok to put it in the rockwool cubes & Oldtimer says prob only partially benificial. What i'll do then is put some in the bottom of about 3 in the same tray & none in the other 3 see what happens If it's partially benificial it'll be doing some good & not damage the plants.
