When my current grow finishes, I am considering investing in an Ikon Growchamber, because, while my current room is OK (ish), my DIY skills when it comes to woodwork and the like are really rather piss poor, and I am fundamentally a lazy bastard who will avoid doing horrible tasks like that if I can get away with it

Going to have to dismantle the one I have anyway, because it currently is too small to accept the light rail I am getting for my next crop, and I really would rather cough up £100 + to have it nice and easy, as opposed to spending a day in my loft, swearing and attempting to hold up huge sheets of white plastic while I attempt to secure them to roof beams with strips of wooden baton.

Anyway, the only thing that is concerning me is the fact that its not got a solid roof, and so I am not sure how well one would support a light rail and a dirty great carbon filter. I did think of maybe having 2 parallel strips of wood going across the top of the chamber, on either side of the supporting pipes, held together with bolts or something, but as I have not seen one in the flesh, as it were, I am not sure if thats going to be practical.

I am also unsure as to how lightproof its going to be, and how stable it will be, as the thing is freestanding, as opposed to being physically fixed to my roof beams.

Anyone used one of these chambers yet?

Hi m8, I use a Growell grow tent. I don`t know if it`s anything like your chamber, but I have it in the loft as it was inconvenient to build one. Had to cut a bit off the top as my lofts only 5 ft high, but 80 quid well spent I think. Easy to assemble/disassemble. Quite strong and long lasting.

I've come across one of these before in an online article for Spliff Magazine.

Being lazy and fairly lame with anything even resembling DIY I tried finding out where i could get one but the only other reference I could find to one of these was here.

Does anyone know how much they charge for these? I'm thinking it won't be cheap but it does seem better than some of the other grow boxes i've seen on the market.

good afternoon chaps smile.gif i trust we are all well ?

i have a gro-well tent in the loft as omh said 'i am fundamentally a lazy bastard' smile.gif

i have found that they get very cold when the light is off and when the light is on it use to glow like something from the xfiles so i put a thick layer of bubble wrap and then another layer of black palstic on top and it has a) kept the temp at a more stable 15c at night and cool.gif it doesnt glow anymore wink.gif other than that great bit of kit. omh will your tent be going in the loft or in a room ? if so i would highly recommend getting double the amount of plastic you need. they are fairly solid when put together and should take weight (not sure how much) are you thinking of getting the great big one ? just saking as you said you are gonna use a light rail. sorry for all the questions buddy.

keep safe

Well, its going to have to support a light rail, running an aircooled 1000w HPS, and a big carbon filter. They look rather flimsy, and I was not sure as to how I would manage to hang everything off it. It is in the loft, but I have the temps pretty much sorted for the moment.

Hopefully, now I will not have to bother (see the light rail thread), because once I measure my current chamber tonight (harvest time tonight! Yipee!), I will know if it will fit.

Dr Albs gave me a really excellent idea as well. He suggested using those large plastic free standing shelves you get in DIY shops , and taping 4 of those together with Duct tape. That would be a lot more solid than a normal growchamber, and would have the advantage of a solid roof (shelf) for me to hang stuff off. Plus, at 20- quid for a 1.8m high x .8m wide x .5m deep, they would only come to £80 plus the cost of my plastic (which I have loads of), as opposed to almost twice that for the Ikon or Growell chambers of similar size.

But, as I said, I loathe DIY, and so, if I can get away with adapting my current chamber rather than building a new one, I am all for it.

Thanks Ossy. I got the wrong end of the stick. I thought we were talking about an Ikon Black Box as opposed to a Growchamber 34.gif
