MartininLondon
I did watch it, I never really thought he was a wanker but he did a cracking job at changing my mind when I watched his fishing program - I find it really hard to watch him on that
Owderb
He is a wanker and has caused a lot of trouble with his stupid, factless, thoughtless comments pinch.gif

He ought to stick with being a porter in casualty wink.gif

I wondered about this too. Not seen his show but as a keen angler wondered what it would be like..I often look at an unrelated fishing forum where robson was cussed down badly, particularly his handling of fish and retarded comments .Will i be annoyed if i watch it?

IN what is the single greatest television programme title in the history of TV, Extreme Fishing with Robson Green is the highlight of Five's schedule at the moment (I know that's not necessarily saying much).

When you get over the fact that the title sounds more like a pitiful Alan Partridge pitch to the BBC than a real programme: “Inner city sumo? Monkey tennis?” it's not actually that bad.

Critics reckon because Robson sometimes uses an electric fishing rod and occasionally gets a chair to sit on it’s not as ‘extreme’ as it could be, but as a non-fisher, it all looks pretty perilous to me.

Last night he headed to Australia and came face-to-face with a 700kg crocodile. Then he tackled a feisty barramundi.

I bet Robson never thought he’d top Soldier Soldier or the cheese-fest that was his subsequent singing career.

But I think with this one he seems to show the charisma we all fell for in Soldier Soldier.

now i must add after reading owds post i was glad to put in the right direction. the above just goes to prove this...
as for the fishing related issues then i would love to here more,,

I agree he has caused a lot of trouble for the sport.

Making stupid comments like 9/10 fish returned to the water die is a load of SHITE, if this was the case then coarse fisheries would be out of business within a month! his show has caused a lot of uproar on the fishing forums i frequent.

I know of people who have caught fish and returned them only for them to be caught again a week or 2 or sometimes even a year later, also his fish handling technique leaves a lot to be desired! you should always handle fish with wet hands when they are going to be released.

He really should research facts before spouting off shite on telly giving the anti's ammuntion

If you want to watch a real angling show then look for the back catalogue of Hooked on with Paul Young, that man knows how to fly fish! or for current programs on TV you can always try Tight Lines on Friday night at 7pm on sky sports 2 (timeslot changes most weeks)

I was out fishing yesterday and caught a lovely 2lb bow, that one got killed for the pot as i do eat trout and think its a lovely fish. however after i have one or 2 for the pot the rest get released unharmed and fit to fight another day, after all i'm an angler not a fishmonger wink1.gif

Tree Man
It was a joke T1... you can put the RSPCA number down now...
I'd rather be cuddled and marveled than have a hook through my face and be chopped or hung ... that fish is twice the size of him... It will have been completly unharmed anyway.
chill out with the animal rights dude ... sheeesh tongue.gif

ETA: just thinking..... If anything ... that is more in fitting with the way nature works than anything else.. rod/line/net..
apart from the chopper ovbiously

and what about the sport aspect of it too. shifty.gif

Yep, on breakfast TV, heres a transcript from another forum.
QUOTE
Kate Silverton: "Umm - in terms of, you know, people do have differing opinions on fishing, um, in terms of throwing them back whether you're actually going to kill and eat them... what's your taking? Because some you do throw back and some of them you kill."

Robson Green: "Sure! I don't wanna... I don't want to impose my view abroad; here, uh I'm not a coarse fisherman, I don't throw them back. I don't see the point of pulling a fish in, beyond recovery, and then having your photograph taken with it, and throwing it back. Because if you throw a fish back, 9 times out of 10 that fish will die; but, you know, you go abroad and you have to respect how they fish and respect why sport-fishermen do the thing they do. But personally I think it's cruel to pull a a fish in, beyond recovery, and have your photograph taken with it. Uhh but that's the way they do it abroad, not at home though, not for me. You know I fish and the ethos of why I fish is to eat what I catch; I think its a really healthy one."

Bill Turnbull then turned the conversation around to "scary" saltwater crocodiles (supposedly 24' long) and Kate Silverton's big new engagement ring.

The mans a prize pillock, but i still watch his show sad.gif

interesting, do you know the context of the conversation? could he have been referring to deep sea fishing? i could be completely wrong here but i thought if a fish was bought up from the deep the change in water pressure can render it unable to survive? (similar to divers suffering effects of re-surfacing too quickly) unsure.gif
TightBud
robson green, the most annoying fisherman i'd never want to go fishing with

he'd be good as shark bait though

still not sure about the vinnie jones fishing prog either(only seen one)

As far as i know it was in reference to ALL fishing, as he said when he's at "home" talking about the UK he is a flyfisher for trout and salmon and kills all he catches, I kill a couple of fish when i am out but the rest get returned safley to fight again another day, Robson also claims to be a self appointed "Expert" at it, however having seen him cast a flyrod in his program he cant cast a line out to save himself, never mind be an expert! Charles Jardine or Paul young, they are men who ARE expert flyfishers!!

Channel 5 could have easily got a better celebrity angler but i guess Mr green was the cheapest!

bang goes my theory then - he's obviously talking pooh.gif

Wht about Matt Dawson and his mate?,i think Matts definatly worse. wacko.gif

On the fishing issue, I personally cannot understand how anyone can contemplate hurting another living creature purely for 'sport'. If you're going to eat them, fair enough, but catching and putting them back is nothing short of psychopathic.

Yes, I know that anglers love to spout the old canard that fish don't feel pain so it's all OK but the latest research suggests otherwise.

I guess you could say then that if Robson Green is doing a disservice to the 'sport' of fishing by implication he must be doing a good service to the welfare of fish everywhere, even if only by raising the issues.

Now flame me, psychos, but deep in your hearts you know I'm right.

What research is that then??

Fish are lacking the Neo cortex part of the brain, which is responsible for all higher brain functions, for this reason alone it is now regarded as a physiological impossibility for fish to feel pain, the observable behaviour that we associate with a fearful or pain like response can be quite simply explained as a non conscious automated reaction to external stimulus, if you put a rope round a bulls neck and try to drag it, it will fight back, however put a ring through its nose and pull that and it will fall into line no problem, people ask "why do fish fight when hooked?" The most likely reason is you are upsetting their equilibrium within their environment by tring to restrict its movement which simply causes a flight response within the fish, If i tied an invisible rope round your neck and tried to drag you out of your home, would you follow or fight?

We all have a moral obligation to dispatch our catch as quickly and as humanely as possible and when i go fishing that is always taken care of quickly and carefully

P.S why am i a Psycho when i go to a loch and catch my fish for dinner where as you go to the chippy?
Bad Penny.
I love fishing and have fished several locations that Robson fished himself including Bungsam Lan(or Bungsamran as some pronounce it)but the episode in the Philippines was ridiculous,I just spent 6 weeks there, why the f**k did he stay on Siargao instead of going to fish for Tuna in Gensan or the bigger pelagics down in sulu&Jolo?Crap presenting, surely they can get someone with a little more Oommmpphhh and passion to present the program if another series is to be made? unsure.gif
Bert
" hes a big sissy spoilt bastard thats just my ovservation i know ur opinions differ "

Got you there brother, as a food fisher I get what he's on about but I do feel sorry for you catch and release boys! So much money so little supper ;-)
Bad Penny.
Ilovegrowing,I am a geordie, but f*cking hell,he really does irritate me with his false american accent and over-exuberance at times, but its hobsons choice "Extreme fishing" with Robson Green or nowt, thats the predicament facing those of us with council telly cry.gif But he could have chosen loads better places to go in the Phillipines than Siargao, and caught loads more fish ph34r.gif
