going fishing in the morning, and i'm planning to use pellets around a method. i know you have to scald them to be able to mould them but, will i be able to do this in the morning before i go as i won't be able to boil water on the bank....and if i can boil em up before i go how long will they last on the bank and still be mouldable???

ive used scalded pellets a bit in the past and tbh mate its better if you prep it at home ........ take it to the lake ready made in a bucket or whatever

when im gonna use it i get a load of pellets and soak them in boiling water .to this i then add dry pellets and mix them in .i keep adding them and mixing the paste until i get a lump of paste that tough enough to mould around the feeder . helps if you let it stand for a bit in between adding more pellets to allow the moisture to soak into the pellets

you can put pretty much anything else that takes your fancy in there to the worlds your oyster with this one .boilies ,hemp etc etc the list goes on and on

personally i would mix this up the day before your fishing

if you want to do some on the bank when you are fishing get some 2mm pellets and place in a baitbox and then cover with water,leave these for a few minutes and drain the water off and place the lid on.in about 20mins the pellets should all be soft enough to mould around a method feeder.turn the baitbox a few times in the 20mins.

your thread has spurred me on to knock some up myself ....

it contains a mix of pellets all small..... trouties, csl, halibuts,bloodworm,betaine the list goes on

all ive done is

1.... put a few handfuls in a bucket ,covered them with boiling water to speed up the breaking down of the pellets ..

2..... to this i added another load of pellets of equal amount to the scalded pellets and a load of boilie crumb to...

3.... i let it stand for a few hours and mixed a little glug into it to....

4.... now im gonna let it dry right out again to end up with a fluffy looking paste this will take all night probably ,by the morning it will be dry but wet enough to cling to the feeder

first session of the year, and on a new set of waters to, cant wait !!!!

he came up with the idea of just scalding pellets and firing them in with a catty or spod

I used fish pellets moulded around a huge method feeder in Thailand,most of the guys were wetting and then threading hooks through pellets as hook-bait,I used baitbands to keep them on the hook longer and finished the day with a personal best Siamese catfish of 74 lb,I got a load of other fish that day ranging from 15-60'ish?Mainly siamese cats but also a siamese carp

watched that geezer robson fish in thailand the other week on tv

caught some amazing looking fish big cats, etc, etc ,

this does work, if im using scalded pellets on a feeder ill usually catty or throw out 4 or 5 golf ball size moulded balls of scalded pellet as close to the feeder as possible, if the feeder proves rewarding ease off with the loose feed balls and let them compete for the feeder, kinda match fishing tactics but have found it effective on commercials that are brimming with low doubles, dont know how succesful on older wiser carp. but watch the slick from the oils, instant attraction from the pellet.

fair play peppi mate, damn thats a good strike rate, i find its more practical, one 5kg bucket of pellets, a few kilo of boilies and pop ups in cooler bag and maybe some prepped hemp, job done, unlike before, bag of floaters, method mix, boilies, tub of tiger nuts id end up with too many buckets/tubs which limited my mobility on the bank, too many options, too much bait going off and total confusion.

i have 2 buckets mate one with pellets, proper method mix , glug ,fenugreek, (ever tried that in bait ????)etc etc etc

and the other to mix up in...

most of the time i do a mix at home and take it with me

along with my bucket of goodies to add to the other bucket as i use it

i have a bucket of pellets, to match whatever hookbait im using ie kg1 pellets or mainline cell then a couple of handfulls of csl's betaine and halibuts and hemp pellet,tiny bag of shrimp paste(sainsburys ethnic), can of tuna and can of corn. in the cooler bag generally two flavours of boilies, various glugs, pops, and salmon oil, but ill have a big freezer bag of dynamite meaty stick mix pre prepped( also use it as a binder once pellets are scalded, also use scalded pellet to plug my spod). I dont take anything other than hemp(if i take any) or stick mix pre prepped, incase when i get there i opt for small pva bags of pellets, or spod beds of pellets or method feeder. never tried fenugreek, hmm interesting in what way dya use it?

just come across this in my local jollies petfood store in the fishing section ..i then got a small bottle of powdered garlic mixed it with the fenugreek and add this to the method mix ... gives it a great curry/aniseed like smell

only a little bit goes a long way in the method mix it reeks of it and the fish seem to like it to
