Well I decided against getting an expensive phone contract just to get an Elite. Totally out of the blue, my wife bought me a 60gb xbox360, with GTA4!

After using a sony for the last 11 years, I am having real problems with the controller. Will this improve as I go along, or do any of you guys think the xbox controller is ergonomically flawed?

GTA4 is mad, the cars actually behave like American cars, IE wallow around corners like a fucking yacht! The cops seem to be every where, and I don't get how the autosave saves just to the hard drive with no prompting, but when I lie down on my bed, I get asked to name a slot?

At the moment I'm just numb, blown away by the diference in graphics and gameplay...any other games I should be looking at when I've got to grips with the controller? What's Gears of War 2 like?

after 11 years on a sony your gonna love this console, the controller does seem a lot bigger/diff than a ps but after a while you'll never want to go back to a ps controller.
if you like fps then GOW2 is good, cod4 + 5, bf: bad company, depends on what games you like, haven't played GTA4 so i dunno unsure.gif
have fun and get on to xbox live, there's plenty of peeps here who play together online

Got a Xbox 360 about a month ago. Until then all my game playing was on PC, so I'm finding the Xbox controller a real handful. Playing Dead Rising, and struggleing so went to read review at IGN and their summary was basically, good game but issues with the precision of the controller, and this from people who play games hours a day, day in day out. The controller is to irratic and to imprecise, this is the second game Ive played on the Xbox and I am getting used to it but imho it will never match mouse and keyboard fro precision. Having said that being designed just for games the Xbox does a few things better than the PC, in dead rising at certain points you have perhaps 200 or 300
active zombies, amazingly rendered and animated, with in your field of view, and the images are amazingly detailed.

All in all, glad I got to see games in the Xbox but the controller, and the fact you cant alter the sensitivity of the look and move sticks on both games Ive played , means I still prefer PC games, even given the visual flair of the Xbox

You'll soon get used to the controller, I thought it was weird at first but it's way better than the ps3's. The Dpad sucks on it, but you never use it anyway. GOW2, COD4, FORZA 2 = some great games.

I think Dead Rising could well be my next game, as I'm an avid zombie fan...any games suitable to play with the kids - theyre 7 and 4?

Its appalling, do yourself a favour and skip it altogether. Res 5 is awfull too. Get COD4 or 5 - Left4Dead is a decent zombie shooter, even better online.

Not for kids really that one.

Get beautiful katamari to play with the kids. Its great, but you'll end up singing cheesey japanese pop to yourself all day biggrin.gif

Playing on a playstation controller myself for over 5 years I then swapped for a 360 one and at first found the controls difficult, once I had got the hang of it I did find the 360 controls to be quite abit better (more user friendly) than the playstation ones. Infact now I can only use a 360 controller comfortably and find playstation ones ergonomically flawed TBH.

Alot of newer games that are currently coming out for the pc are compatible with the 360 controller through a USB port on your pc, unfortunately COD4 isn't one of them to the best of my knowledge.

Playing online...never ever done it, never seen anyone do it, don't know anything about it. We don't have wireless in our house, it's hard wired (mind control and all that you know lol.gif), so is that what that ethernet cable is for? Can you get extensions for them? How long do the batteries last in the controller? Is it worth taking out insurance against red ring of death? Whats all this about some online poker game where american girls flash their tits on webcam?

Yes, that's how I connect but I guess I'm lucky in the fact that my router is in the same room as the 360. Online play is ace, it's like a whole different game altogether and I'd highly recommend it.

How far is your router from your 360? If it's just a case that the supplied cable isn't long enough then I'd just buy a longer cable mate.

Depends how long you play for I guess but the first thing I bought was a 'Play & Charge Kit'. It costs £15 (I think) and you get a battery pack with it as well as a cable to plug your controller in when the battery runs out. You just play with it like that until the light on it goes green and your battery is fully charged again - no waiting around for your battery to charge!

No, the warranty on the 360 is a year but for the red ring of death it's three. Even after that, you can get the repair kit for next to nothing, it's not worth paying the excess IMO.

I don't know but it sounds ace... Probably need the XBOX LIVE vison thing, which I know nothing about if I'm honest. Have a look at Xbox.com

Don't think it is an appalling game, controller is annoying but pretty good premise for the game, nice mix of sick humour and moments of chills. But crazy time demands mean you have to run around like a headless chiken and only have one save slot and can't save at will, just about 10 places around game. Stalker and Fear and Left4Dead do horror side of it much better. It's an okay game if you don't mind regular restarts. Not for 4 to 7 year olds, unless you hate your kids and want them to grow up deranged, in which case fill yer boots up.
willowisp
No, i wasn't asking if you though a zombie game was suitable for my kids lol.gif! But what "family" games are out there which arent crap?

Also, apparently its "Uno" where girls get filthy in the early hours if you've got a webcam!
Perfect Haze
definetely katamari, its so awesome biggrin.gif
Also the lego star wars/indy games are great for kids (and grownups too)
guitar hero and rockband and that maybe?

Only played Dead Rising for about 3 hours when I posted my first responce and I now think it is one of the most fustrating games I've played. From doing reading at Visual Walkthroughs, IGN and a few other places it seems it is expected that you will not make it through at the first attempt. It has a facility to either load last save or start again with the stats you have achived in the first attempt. Thing is if the assumption is that you wont make it through the first time it needs far better game play elements to make that attempt worthwhile. A very odd, fustrating experience and one at this point I couldn't in all honesty recommend.

I love dead rising, took me about 4 play throughs to complete. Those bastards in the army van outside took some beating but its worth it for their gun. When you finish it it goes into a bonus mode where you have to survive for as long as poss completing new challenges. I can understand you being dissapointed if you bought the game and didnt know multiple play throughs are required but this was well documented before the game was released. Great fun, cant wait for dead rising 2, should be a big improvment.
