Couldn't agree more in my humble opinion Mario kart is one of if not THE greatest game franchise there has been, the SNES and DS's are both real fun.

But got to disagree with you here highgrower, not played the wii version so I can't coment but I think the N64 version has it's place.

I also like (and don't shoot me!!!) the slightly disliked double dash on the cube, me and my old flatmate would go in the same "team" and whoever was in the back would be smoking, haha, was tricky but once you got it down was fun. I don't think theres been a "Bad" mariokart yet.

Have just dug up my old snes - only ever bought 1 game - Mario Kart - for it other than mario land which came with it and a 'borrowed' street fighter II - dunno the 3d versions of mario kart - u just cannot do the 'perfect' lap with them in the same way as the old snes version - maybe im just too old to get the whizzy graphics and analogue controls etc but i remember the old wooden atari with games like pitfall and that tennis game with the really weird paddle things - now im really showing my age - and your all forgetting tetris on the gameboy.

And zelda on the NES ahh now that was many wasted afternoons spent - snes version was fucking class to.

Dunno the megadrive/saturn never appealed in the same way as nintendo - probably the crappy pads (just remembered what the nes pads looked like lol.gif).
MartininLondon
I enjoyed it, it was a knockout game when it came out and the original has stood the test of time for sure. I love the Wii version, my missus bought it a while ago and I like it.

Some will call it sacrelidge but i hated Galaxian. First game was some pre 2600 tv game system - a tank command style thing, only other one i remember early on is some forrest based text adventure on Spectrum 48k before Horace goes skiing came out.

After that the classic are er.....Chucky Egg, YieArKungFu, BruceLee, AtticAttak and of course Manic Miner/JetSetWilly.

Whilst we're nattering about old school games, how many of you lost hours from your lives playing tetris? And all you win is a shuttle taking off! Oh not forgetting them, just havent mentiond them yet!

Could have been Spy vs. Spy there was a 2d and a 3d version, well three dimensional drawings. I liked most of the Bitmap Borthers titles, had thousands of Amiga games i couldnt pick a favourite, obv. Kick Off was insane! Remember the Amiga tried to invent a mascot to rival Sonic and Mario and they came up with (silly)'Putty' and it was unplayable!!

Lemming might have kept me awake longer than any other game in history.

By all means list some more..................might get the C64 out tomorrow

Loved mario kart on the snes, also love it on wii.

Kung Fu Master on the Atari 2600, used to have lots of fun on that. Massive game with 5 levels. Then start the game again, same levels double the enemies.

Golden Axe was great.

I did! Much later, when my mates and I had to get jobs to pay for drugs, I started a graphic design business. Memories of deathmatch doom had stuck for all of us, so I got 3 PCs linked up and running Unreal tournament. Like paint-balling without the burning legs and burn-like bruises.

I only had a nintendo for a short while when I was a kid. My brother nicked it and swapped it and his TV for a Raleigh Tuff-Burner. The bastard.
Boojum
How did I miss this thread.

Mario Kart on the SNES, greatest multiplayer game ever (grand prix mode and battle mode). Closely followed by Super Bomberman. Unirally was great fun too. You can keep all your high definition, 3D, style over substance modern guff. So modern games look good, big fucking deal, most of them wouldn't know decent gameplay if you drew them a fucking diagram (in 3D, high definition, with exploding bodyparts). Wow, you made a great looking game, unfortunately you forgot to put in the fucking FUN.

But Nintendo just make kids games blah, blah, blah. If gratuitous violence and swearing is your idea of an adult game then I suggest you grow the fuck up.

Edited to add and may I just say that Shigeru Miyamoto is one of the most important figures (in fact probably THE greatest) in the history of videogaming notworthy.gif
Culchi
Maybe it's just me then, I hated the sega megadrive (the sound was woeful) and I hate the whole Mario franchise, partly due to Nintendo/Bandai's marketing strategy for the UK, ie rip the arse out of it pricewise compared to the rest of the world. Speedball 2 on the Amiga, brilliant sound and gameplay - "ice cream! ice cream!". I think the 4 player karate game mentioned earlier was IK+? And was it not Zool was the Amiga's answer to Sonic, etc? My son likes his DS though and wants a Wii now as well. I guess I just preferred computer games rather than console games, but short thumbs means I can't use a pad properly. lol.gif
Boojum
QUOTE (Culchi @ Apr 4 2009, 06:48 AM) *
And was it not Zool was the Amiga's answer to Sonic, etc?

It was made as an 'answer to' Sonic, but neither would have existed without Nintendo, who invented the entire platform game genre with the arcade machine Donkey Kong (designed by...... yup, you guessed it - Shigeru Miyamoto). The first appearance of a certain diminutive Italian plumber called Mario, originally called simply 'jumpman'. It was also the very first game to use cutscenes to develop the story, just one more innovation that Miyamoto-san brought to videogaming.
Culchi
I always hated platform games though - any game that uses a jump button too often doesn't get played - hence my dislike of the Tomb Raider series - who wants to spend hours listening to some daft bitch screaming all the time ffs? Aaaaarrrrggghhh! lol.gif
Boojum
Looking at the bigger picture, though, the fact is that Nintendo (and more specifically Shigeru Miyamoto) are probably more responsible than any other entity for modern videogaming. Love them or loathe then, without them there wouldn't be modern gaming as we know it. Not bad for a company that began in the 19th century making playing cards.
Culchi
Take your word for it Boojum - I don't seem to get as much enjoyment out of gaming these days anyway, or anything else ftm, so it's probably just me tbh. sad.gif
Boojum
Off topic, but from that and other posts you've made tonight/this morning, it sounds to me like the hallmarks of depression sad.gif

Edited to add sorry, don't mean to stick my nose in, but having had a fair bit of experience with it, it sounds like the familiar effects of the presence of the Black Dog.
Culchi
Cheers for the concern Boojum appreciate it friend. Aye, the old black mutt is never far away am afraid. Sorry to put a downer on the boards, I should probably take it for a walk. I may be some time... sadwalk.gif

Yes thats true, but they tried to give the amiga a mascot and that was 'Putty' but it failed dismally, the game being a steaming unplayable turd didn't help.

The original proposed mascot was Tiki the kiwi from new zealand story but Taito wouldnt hand over the rights to commodore as they were developing the arcade version of NZ2 at the time. They did however bundle the first amiga's in a NZ Story pack the name of which escapes me. Probably NZ Story pack rofl.gif
