Well after getting my pre-copy of KZ2, which by the way is so fooking fantastic there aren't enough superlatives for me to convey how good the online gaming is , I'm now pleased to have Resi 5 turn up on my doorstep this morning .

Looks like I may just give up life altogether and just smoke and play PS3 games ..wait I already do that

I do believe their is some co-op play online, so maybe I'll hook with you guys for some shared survival horror fun, and I don't mind playing the girl..Oooeer Missus

It's harvest day next week as well, I just don't know where I'm gonna find the time to do all of this

Oh what a game!

I played Res 5 for 14hrs yesterday. I think i might finish it today.

To start the biggest headche is the control system. No straffing on the run or run and shoot option.

This can be a pain with gangs of Zombies running at you!

Also the puzzles are very easy IMO.

I have seen harder better ones in the RES games.

Gone is the spooky mansion. Its set in Africa this time.

The grafix are shit hot also.

Though the cut scences to go on a bit.

Also theres pages and pages of files to read. I skipped most and just got into it.

You have a buddy also, Which i found very Gears of War 2.

And it can be a pain when in combat and they are blasting you in the back with a shotgun.

The Green herb is still here for healing! And now is administered in spray form like Sativex !!!

Also i found other Res games more spooky and darker, But i must say that the Beasties in Res 5 are really well done.

And when some appear you just think Oh Fuck!

The item collection system has been dumbed down in this version also, But you dont really notice it.

My biggest grip would be the controls, They are tricky to start, But you really do get used to them.

After a while i was able to do actions really quickly.

I think i nearly finished the game in one go yesterday.

But im not sure.

I would give Res 5 : 7.5 / 10.

I would recommend the game.

i got mine yesterday with the new red elite i havnt even played it yet, probably wont play it till next weekend.

Worst Res game ever.

Its like controlling a sack of tatties.

I cant fault the look of the game - Major mentions some other flaws, being rooted to the spot as the zombies rush you, not being able to duck, and the terrible 'team' interface which invariably sends the woman runnning in circles or dissappearing round corners ruining the surprise attacks!

Also the character voices sound like they were recorded in a shipping container, the soundscape doesnt seem to change with the levels.

With things like 'gta4' to beat on the marketplace this just isnt good enough. Maybe rockstar have set the bar too high - i havent really enjoyed a game since.

Also 'left4dead' is streets ahead in atmosphere and gameplay compared to res5. I'd buy that if you don't have either yet.

Wow, you guys are really hard to please. I'm really enjoying it but I do admit to being a big RE fan.
I'd had some moments where sheva wouldn't stay still and sometimes where she wouldn't shoot the monster on my face but there's bugs in practically every game and I expect these to be sorted. Sheva's attack and cover options are stupid too, cover she sometimes shoots at things if she can be bothered. attack and she fucks off to find something to kill, leaving me to kill the thing attatched to my head. She was barely used as anything but something nice to look at in my games - especially with the unlocked gold outfit.

I've completed RE5 on normal first and easy for money and doing speedruns - something about beating my time by a few seconds on a level really does it for me. I've upgraded the majority of weapons and received a few secret ones like the gatling gun for maxing all of the machine guns.
The thing I find with resident evil is that it gets far easier as you play - with my weapons upgraded and infinite ammo I could go through veteran no problem - have on a few levels.

Is my dexterity on par with God? I don't understand all the problems with the controls. They were exactly as I expected, although I did have to turn the aiming speed up to fastest in the options.
It does have it's flaws, like most things, but I'm a little more generous with my rating: 83%. The story that RE told has spanned a decade and there's been above 10 residient evil games with thier part to tell. The 'pages and pages of files to read' obviously add to this amazing story and the ending; well, lets just say it's been a long journey and I'm glad it's finally over.

If it wasn't for the mentioning of awesome graphics I'd think we were playing a different game. On that note, how many got as far as Excella's curves- oh my. Got to be the best representation of a luscious female I've ever seen in a game. Based upon Penelope Cruz by any chance?

Its like holding a gun one handed wearing a boxing glove and running with your legs taped together with a spastic kangaroo sidekick, the zombies are badly rendered, the sound is nothing worth mentioning, the levels are dull, almost every aspect of it has been bettered by previous RES games and most of that by the first one in 1996? these type of flaws solidox?

All in all a £40 raping by capcom.

Now ive played further i'd like to reduce my previous rating of 3/10 to 1/10.

honestly dude its horrific to play, its not that the controls are hard its just that one thing.
Tbh it annoys me when you hear RE fans saying 'the controls have been like this for a decade blah blah blah' - yeah a decade ago they were acceptable, now theres a standard that needs to be met and they failed.
If though there was a patch that allowed you to move whilst shooting/stabbing it'd be one of the best games ever

Well after playing Resi for a while, it's just as I expected, no better, no worse. The graphics are wonderful, and 90% of static shooters are not to everyones taste . Obviously, if you're used to running around in COD and KZ to name a couple then Resi is going to be a nightmare for you .
I generally have most new releases sent to me just before they come out so tend to pay a hell of alot of games , and I would give this Resi at least 7 out of 10. This is a must for true die-hard fanboys/girls though. The co-op play on-line is a treat though as you get to shout obscenities at your co-op player when he/she won't help or share the ammo

Most high on my list of games I'm waiting for is God of War III .

I have to ask the people who moan about the controls, did you not play RE4 ? Because it's pretty much the same control system, and is deliberately designed to be like that. If you could duck, run & shoot at the same time, strafe etc it would be ridiculously easy and just another generic shooter. Can't say for RE5 yet, but once you got to grips with the controls in RE4 it turned out to be quite simply one of the best games ever made.

That's an interesting comparision. I've explained the flaws I found. If you think that it's a badly rendered steaming pile of kangaroo turd, that's fair enough but I'd get an appointment at the opticians if I were you as earlier you said the graphics could not be faulted and now they are badly rendered? Talking out of your hole by any chance?
TBH, before I flashed my 360 I was being raped on a regular basis. If it keeps happening to you, perhaps it's time you took control. Or just get lubed up before your next purchase.

Can someone point out an instance where they have found it easier to shoot a moving target whilst they are running? Do you really expect the controls to be easier to use if you are also running whilst pointing the laser guide? How would you get a headshot in this situation? Perhaps you all should write to Capcom and ask them to re-release the entire franchise just the way you like it. Without zombies in scarfaces case!

reviews are - all i've seen are great or average. Did you write it yourself? Metacritic gave an 85% average from 51 magazines/websites and 87% average from 66 users. It must be that all the people who don't like it don't leave feedback, huh? Even the worst review I've seen, at 60%, admits it's a good game.
In regards to my opinion annoying you - I'm certain your opinions on games annoy me far more. Could you explain this standard you mention in the same sentence please? I can't find anything on the British Standards site. Are they the same standards GTA4, Left4Dead, Gears 1, GR:AW and FO3 all failed on as I notice you didn't get past the 2nd level/chapter in those either? Could you also explain how a game could go from a steaming pile to best ever with just a change of controls?

i love gears1 but only got it a few days before gears2 come out (a member from here sent it to me actually) GR-AW isnt even mine? ffs you stalker going through my games list, ever thought i might have borrowed some of those game or maybe friends brought them round?

You don't see me getting upset, and it's my thread . I been playing games since the days of pong, Atari 2600, Spectrum, Commodore, BBC etc and most of all, games have improved beyond belief . I hate everything about the 360, and wouldn't piss on it if I saw one on fire , but that's my perogative and I don't feel the need to quantify it .

I must spend about ten grand on games and equipment a year and Ive been gaming since 1980 solidox - i know a shit game when i see/play one. . Just because you are on a public forum, don't assume you are talking to idiots or schoolkids. Are you a schoolkid? You certainly sound like one.

I pay for games because i can - i dont really care if they cost one pound or a hundred. I put that 'raping' comment in for the benefit of people who choose carefully and only buy a game a month/week/year as £40 is a lot of money to a lot of people.

Of course it doesnt really matter if you just steal them like you do. How can you value games if you don't pay for them? You are not a proffesional games tester after all.

As Boojum pointed out the controls are pretty much the same as RE4 - pretty much but not identical, also the compostion of the game is different, camera's are different - they want it to look like a new COD title but didnt bother to expand the control mech to grant us their wish.

I still stand by my decision, its a load of bollocks.

As for the game i think its brilliant, i cant say that i struggle with the standing still to shoot thing but a couple of mates (who mainly play COD) couldnt quite grasp it. They still think its a great game from watching me play.

Sheva can get annoying from time to time like when she just stands there and takes bullets but the online co-op mode is a wicked idea providing the other person knows what they're doing

I would give the game a 9/10 but thats only my opinion.
