Full Version: over fertilising due to canna terra professional again

ok i am posting this for some advice but also as a warning about canna terra professional which has given me more problems than any medium i have ever used. i started off in this stuff and had to repot due to it being too hot for my power plant seedlings i then mixed it 1/4 to 3/4 coco and got really good growth for two months anyway i foolishly repotted into 90% canna terra professional figuring the good strong plants i had would now cope with the richer soil. Wrong. they are showing all the signs of overfertilising again. Anyway what i want to ask is do i need to repot into a weaker mixture again or can i get away with flushing some of the nutes out of the canna ? as this would be easier and hopefully stress the plants less. Many thanks in advance for help. (n.b all other conditions are within acceptable bounds)

If you use a proper seedling compost, or dilute the Canna with perlite, you won't have any problems regarding the over fertilisation of seedlings.

MY point is they are not seedlings now and thios stuff is still too strong.

How old are they from seed then?

cheers for replying Bish they are 11 weeks old now though a little undersized due to mess ups about 14" and have had no additional fertiliser.

Excessive (N) will stunt plants, & they've probably not fully recovered as a result of being nuked.

Just water when they need it.

What size pots are they in now? Some pics would be good too.

they are in 6 litre pots now as i have just potted up I am just watering though i expect they will need repotting into a cooler mixture again. i am just annoyed that this soil is sold as an all purpose cannabis soil and it's caused me so many problems next time i will only use it heavily diluted with a seedling compost. sorry can't do pics but burnt tips yellowing of new growth and up turned tips indicate overfertilising to me and its only happened after i put it back into the canna.

Hello plummer

Not found any problems with canna pro in the past. Never tried it with seedlings so can't comment on that, but have used it on fist pot ups to 1ltr pots if i recall correct and never had any trouble with it.

An 11 wk old plant that can't take full strength compost? Something sounds asmiss unsure.gif I think it says on the bag to start feeding after a week, but personally i wouldn't i'd just wait till the plant shows it needs a feed. Did you feed them at all?

Maybe just a dodgy bag?

I would just do what you can an play it by ear with the plants that you have got now - just give them water, for example, and keep an eye on them for anything that they're telling you that they need.

In future, though - I would do as Bish suggested and use a proper Seedling and Cutting compost for germing the seeds/rooting the cuts, and then gradually pot them up into larger pots and stronger compost. Many other people have used exactly the same products and have not had these kind of problems, and I reckon that it'll be that way for you too on your next go-round. thumbsup.gif

update on these they seem to have accustomed themselves to this soil now and are doing ok. As for using this soil again i will only use it mixed with something weaker in future. I don't doubt that others have used it without problems but I think things like different lights and different strains will make a significant difference. These powerplant seeds that I have used this time don't seem to like rich soils like the canna terra professional. cheers for the input.

Canna pro has very little nutes in it, so defo not too hot!

CANNA professional does have added nutrients but some months on I know think the problems that i was talking of here were caused by a shit hydrogarden white tent and its emissions the person who had these plants has now got rid of the tent and had no further problems so apologies to canna at the time the tent being at fault didn't occur to me and i assumed the yellowing leaves were down to soil probs.

But surely the tents will be made from like non reactive materials?. unsure.gif ...i mean SURELY?

They *should* be, but there have been quite a few reports of especially the cheapo growtents affecting plants with offgassing from the material(s) used in their construction. spliff.gif

doesn't canna do a compost with very little added nutes, so that growers can have better control of the nutrient schedule, the plants only getting what you decide to add? cant remember its name.
Mr_cocofibrelover
i keep reading about " off gassing" .. ok i find this possible, but if you have good extraction it shouldnt be a problem.......

should it?? surely no gas is released from these plastics when the lights/extractors are off??

Thats what i was always told about Canna Pro+, the plus being the one with no nutes so the grower could tailor it. Well thats a load of crap i reckon as it does have nutes in it. It even states on the bag that it does.
