I am currently converting a pc case for a micro grow.

The design relies on a carbon cooker hood filter to deal with the odour but also to replace a light baffle. Conserving space is the biggest design challenge in this situation. Smells are also a complete no no. I have just taken a bit of this material and tested it for flamability. I am pretty worried this represent a significant fire hazard - especially with the intense heat of my planned 150W hps being no more than 12cm away.

i am going to use a 120mm pc fan - although it is no ordinary pc fan. It is the best - i have tested its pulling power through the filter material and im confident its up to the task. Now I am seriously considering something like an envirolite because the heat is more dispersed and to save me constantly worrying about an exploding hps bulb, perhaps irrationaly.

I am also thinking not all cooker hood carbon filter pads are the same and some will be far less flammable.

Does anyone know of a specifically flame retardant filter pad available?

i'll make a nice pictorial of my creation in the near future! smile.gif

thanks for that link man, that was awesome.

Ive decided to go with the new generation of CFL called pl-l or dulux l, to name a few. read about it herehere . thanks to knna from gardens cure!. I am gonna fit 4X 36W tubes. These are remote balasted and the most effificient cfls on the market - they get better as you increase wattage but i cant fit in bigger ones.
