Im stuck- both sound very appealing, but which one for that traditional thai taste? fruit musty lemon or spicey sandlewood- i take it the spicey taste is the more common thai import taste..unsure.gif most the import thai ive hadhas been spicey.. but v nice indeed!

Although i cant get the lao from Namkha- but i know a seed bank that does have it i think. Namkha does mean that when the lao's gone.. its gone..?

Im looking for the best taste and aroma but an additional soaring high would be great advantage(gta is great for this but lacks high..)

Consider buying them both..but dunno bout space sad.gif ouch: But if you where to pick one, what would it be?..namkha can you answer this too tongue.gif

Thanks!

Hi Stickyblack,

our Highland Lao would be something closer to the kind of taste you would have had on imported 'erb - but it is from a select line, picked out by a guy with a decade or so experience in the region, and is high-end stuff - it will be back in stock soon

we have a "Thai Mix" available from our site - 10 seeds for 15 quid - a mix of Burmese, Lao and Thai

why not go with the Highland Thai? It's very unusual - has great flavour and a high with plenty of punch; and you can be sure you will be one of the few people on the planet toking it - definitely something to boast about

I can't give any guarantees about when the Highland Lao will be back in stock - about a month probably

Here are some December harvested Highland Thai buds - these could have gone till Feb and also had been dried too fast --- but you can see the potential there

you can see the pics of the plants in the Highland Thai thread - they are real beauties

Those are killer looking buds. I love the colour. Can't wait to grow this strain next season.

quote: (from Rob Clarke's Hashish book I think)

Thai

"Thai sativa leaves differ from those on most other sativa plants from other areas. The Thai sativa seems to grow the longest leaves in the world, more slender, more elegant, and with strongly accented serrations... Thai plants, which really do seem to be a particular species of cannabis sativa, easily grow to heights of 15 to 25 feet, competing closely with their Nepalese cousins..."

*****************************************

from Rob Clarke's book "Marijuana Botany"

"Strains from Thailand are characterized by tall meandering growth of the main stalk and limbs and fairly extensive branching. The leaves are often very large with 9 to 11 long, slender, coarsely serrated leaflets arranged in a drooping hand like array. The Thai refer to them as "alligator tails" and the name is certainly appropriate..."

"The calyxes of Thai strains are very large, as are the seeds and other anatomical features, leading to the misconception that strains may be polyploid. No natural polyploidy has been discovered in any strains of Cannabis though no one has ever taken the time to look thoroughly. The seeds are very large, ovoid, slightly flattened, and light brown or tan in color. The perianth is never mottled or striped except at the base."

***********************************

In recent years all the so called "Thai" seeds from seedbanks (that I've personally seen) produce inferior short plants and have small calyxs and small mottled seeds. It is about fifteen years since I've seen what I would call true Thai. Big seeds with no mottling or stripes and giant leaf plants that grow twenty feet without any special attention. This was the most common Thai strain in the seventies! Also, big seeds = big calyxs. Simple botany 101. I've never seen big calyxs from small seeds.

There are a lot of different strains from Thailand though, according to locality. I'm just saying that the legendary Highland "farmed" Thai seems to be extinct even though it used to be the most common. There has always been a separate small seeded Thai line and most Thai from seedbanks seems to be variants of this strain. A very similar small seeded strain is common to Indonesia but it has a lot larger leaves than the common Thai and is probably more potent. Rumour has it that it is a pure Thai strain taken to Indonesia by the Mr Asia syndicate in the seventies. The seeds are black and unmarked.

I cannot comment on the RSC "Highland Thai" as it is something new that I've never grown before. I have purchased some of the seeds though to do a test grow. If it is as interesting as the Pahari then it could be an excellent strain. Just not what I would personally call Highland Thai even though it is from the highlands of Thailand.

As a footnote, the seeds from most true (pure) landrace strains that I have ever seen were never mottled or striped. They were always a plain single colour of black, grey or brown. This new trend of "mottled" landrace seeds is not something I am familiar with.
