Full Version: Serious Seeds price rise?

Hey, just noticed that Serious Seeds have put their prices up a tenner across their seed lines, they are now either £60 or £70. Does anyone have a theory as to why the price has gone up by so much so fast? The exchange rate maybe?

It also asks the question if the seeds are still worth it at the new price, any opinions? I don't think it's against the rules to discuss prices...

Anyway, it definitely removes Kali Mist from my short list of Sativas to try in my next grow, so they have already lost some business.

Greed Greed Greed, last year they start selling them in 10s instead of 15s but never lowered the price now this year they up the price by a tenner.£60/70 for 10 beans they cant be "Serious" I always wanted to try WR aswell,I wont ever be paying them prices so I better knock that one of my list of strains to try.............

i think its to do with the pound its worth nothing these days its value has droped to about the same as the euro so u should expect some sites to put prices up espealliy if out of the u.k anyway thats wat my dumb ass thinks!!!!!!!!!

They used to have a breeder forum here too didn't they?

I remember Claude and his Serious Seed Photo Contests - wasn't too long ago too if I remember correctly. Maybe this price rise is why they don't now have a forum. I remember a while back that they reduced the size of their seed packs from 15 - 10 which pretty much equated to a price rise. Claudes justification was that customers preferred packs of 10 over packs of 15... rolleyes.gif

Edit: Lennon beat me to it harhar.gif

I had an email from th UK distributor the other week saying that due to the exchange rate prices were gone up from immediate effect
Greeny
He must have done so much 'free advertising and product awareness' that I thought he had his own sub-forum rofl.gif .

Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up Joolz, whether it's the real reason or not it's nice to be given one.

However, the price rise does make the seeds to expensive, if it was me I'd have dropped the number of seeds rather than upped the price.
leafyluxton
thought that would be the reason the pound worth nothing lol.gif this country is a joke lol.gif

The exchange rate is making it hard to import anything these days.

TBH......£60/£70 still represents decent value IMO. Especially for the quality and uniformity that is associated with Serious.
You only need one pack for a good mother or your own F2's........it's a good investment IMO.

Seen big money asked and paid over the years for private breeder offerings that could've been anyones hacks.

How much is a ounce on the street these days??

I actually think that £60/70 is ok for really good genetics.Say 50% are male that's £12-15 per fem plant.Once you got a good one and can clone it you can grow it out indefinitely.
Tho i suppose if you don't have space for a veg/clone box £60/70 can get expensive each time.
Buying cheap seeds then growing them, often for a few months only to find they are crap is much more of a waste of time and money imo.

I agree that it does seem like a put off up front but once you have a mum and have gotten a run or two out of her, you'll be thinking, money well spent.

Cabt believe that! It was ban enought when they started giving you less seeds. Sensi Seeds did the same thing, gave you less seeds then put the price up!
I go to Amsterdam in feb think i will buy some seeds over there.

They will be the same price (if not more) as the major brands over here.....you'll still be getting the same amount of €€ for your ££.
When you are over there, try to get something you can't neccessarily get over here.....ask in a few of the coffeeshops if they have any seeds available. Surprisingly, more than you would realise do.....or maybe somone has a friend they know with local seeds wink1.gif

Homegrown Fantaseeds is worth a look....but again, I dare say they will be around same price as here.
DNA genetics have a nice shop.....so do THSeeds.
Gypsy Nirvana on Singel had closed though last time I was over......I know a lot of peeps don't have time for him, but I've bought some interesting beans from him over the years.....he was really good for private breeder stuff.

I'm not defending the seeds companies in any way here, but I thought this was worth adding.

Although we are in recession, inflation on industrial raw materials has been huge in the past year or two....production costs in every industry have increased enormously over this time.....this has been reflected in higher prices for most goods (look at inflation here in the UK for instance, food inparticular).
Energy costs have increased too....gas, electric......how much have utility bills risen in the past 2 or 3 years ??

Again, I'm not defending anyone here....just pointing out that production costs over every sector have increased and these need to be recouped at some stage or the company simply ceases the abilty to trade effectively.
Weedsmoker
Just grown out some chronic and that produced the biggest buds I have ever seen on an inside grow. After disappointment with other seed companies I will be sticking with SS, going to be either Kali or Bubblegum for next grow.

As others have said the cost is not even 1/2 oz of shit gear from a dealer, plus the amount you spend on electric, ferts etc why compromise on quality and probably yield?

i think you will find more or less all seeds going up to be honest, i still think they are worth the price, your guaranteed quality, i did some really crappy grows with serious genetics and the bud still knocked my socks off, in the grand scheme of things a tenner more for your seeds really isnt a big deal, if you dont clone then maybe its a bit much granted.
flunkyou2
Noone has put there prices up..... its the Euro vs Pound the pounds very weak at the mo smile.gif ph34r.gif

The exchange rate will deffo have been a major factor. However, as mentioned, the quality and unioformity of Serios products is, IMO the best i have seen across the seed companies. Granted i have not tried all seed co's, but i have tried a fair few and Serious come out on top for quality, uniformity, germ rates and M/F ratio.

I have grown out Chronic. I bought a pack for 50Euro in Dam a whil back and it has paid for itself tenfold. From 10 i had 7 Females and 3 Males. They were all the same pheno too. From the tallest to the shortest was only about 4 inches height difference. Even if your paying £70...thats £7 per seed. Say you yield 40g off that plant, thats an onuce and a half of hi grade bud for £7....cant really argue. Also if you clone mother or if you keep a male to produce F2's, your initial layout will be so worth it.

I really want to grow out WR, AK and Bubblegum too, the price will not put me off. Quality always prevails.

e2a. Dropping it from 15 to 10 seeds is cheeky though, not sure i buy the line about growers preferring packs of ten...dunno bout you but ill take all i can get in this game!
Herbal Kint
Heck i would give 150Euros if i new a strain that gives fruity aroma and ok hit in the head i have spend like more than 300euros on seeds till now and didnt get what i wanted sad.gif So it comes to same thing if seeds produce awesome weed ,i buy them just once anyway and make a mother plant...

Next to grow is bubblegum from Serious along with jack flash it better pay up sweatdrop.gif
CaptainStoner
yeah the prices have gone up but so has everything. its still way cheaper than dealer bud trust me. AFAIK SS are decent seeds and its worth it for the crops

I noticed the other week how all the seeds prices had gone up and thought it strange....totally forgetting about how weak the pound is against the euro doh.gif
I won't mind paying the extra as long as something decent turns up and if you keep it as a mum it makes the cost negligable over time. My only concern is if something doesn't even germ and you don't get no support from the seed company...then i'd be real pissy taz.gif
nicelytoasted
Yeah but from personal experience thats never happened with serious seeds. Great company - practically 100% everytime and for some reason very good female to male ratios, and lets not forget some awesome strains. Worth it in my opinion

Couldn't agree more NT smile.gif I've grown AK and`WR and they were both very good - AK is still my favourite weed smile.gif

I don't know how he does it, but out of 25 seeds planted, I've had 19 females smile.gif

An extra tenner is surely worth paying...
lazi
As you may know, I only do seed grows. Some strains aren't suitable for me as I need all the females to be decent, rather than one magic keeper plus a load of also rans.

In the early stages of my current setup, the seeds worked out to ~£2.80 per ounce. Now that I've removed a lot of negatives in the grow using seeds costs me ~£1.50 per ounce.

I've got some Serious AK47 growing now. Got 7 females from 11 beans. They're growing free range which usually means 15oz in my tent but they're looking to beat that, got me a scrog type canopy and they sorted that out for themselves. Say 18oz? That would make them £3.89 per ounce which is kinda pricey but without buying them I'd never get to experience the real AK47.
