"Bhang" (pronounced "bhaang") is the general name for cannabis in India --- whether the plant is used for charas production, ganja, or just for food and drink, it is called a bhang plant

bhang is also the lowest grade of cannabis - i.e. not resin (charas), pistillate inflorescenes (ganja) - but just leaves and stuff from a female plant

bhang is still legally produced on the few remaining licensed government farms which supply the handful of government bhang shops left in India --- there are still bhang shops in the major Saivite pilgrimage towns (and cities) in India --- places like Banaras (Varanasi), Puri, Pushkar etc. ... the bhang they use is largely just leaf from female plants; there are also a lot of shops in such towns selling drinks like tandai and bhang lassi, as well as bhang cakes, majoum and various other kinds of bhang confectionary...

like Calgacus says, if you really want a truly psychedelic cannabis experience, eating or drinking bhang is one guaranteed route
