I would dearly love to catch a 12lb plus Kennet barbel in the new year.

I am primarily a barbel angler and I have caught lots of doubles including lots of 10s and plently of 11's with fish of 11.2, 11.4, 11.6, 11.7 11.8 and 11.12 (my PB) but a 12lb+ fish is eluding me, all my mates have had plenty of 12s and most of them have had 13lb fish and my bestest fishing buddies PB is 14lb 2oz, he also had two 13's this year too.

I love all barbel no matter how big they are but a 12 or 13lb fish would be the icing on the cake for me for this season yahoo.gif

I would also like to catch a 3lb plus perch and I want to catch a Grayling too, not bothered how big as I have never caught one before.

I would be interested to know what your fishing hopes and dreams are for 2009

It can be arranged Bish, barbel averaging 8/9lb with plenty of doubles where we fish, you are welcome to come and spend a weekend on the river with us. They will be packing on weight in Feb/March, I hope the cold snap passes soon, a good Westerly storm and some flood water in the river is well over due now.

Lots of big chub too, 4/5lb fish are not un common

Cya in the summer! cool.gif Never had a dog over 4 1/2, so anything over that would be a pb for me. My pb Barbel still stands at 10lb 2oz - looking forward to smashing that record! wink1.gif

I wouldn't be surprised if the severn threw up a twenty, reckon its well overdue.

I'd like to catch a big fish this year. Used to go with my dad who LOVED fishing when I was a kid, just pissing about for general fish, on the club he's in's nice waters while he went for barbel, pike, carp etc..

The biggest fish I ever caught was a tench on a piece of peanut butter sandwich, and a little cheese. with the bait like a foot out into the lake, rod on the floor with a bad tangle in the line, me urinating in disgust at said tangle on a nearby tree.. not a stunningly large tench but my PB.. once got a 1lb+ roach on a pole..

Not actually been fishing once since before i became a stoner.. Don't like the idea of skinning up with slimy fishy hands.. but my dad keeps saying that one day we'll have to go, have a few beers, a few joints, some good munch, and just fish.. one summer's day.

So my fishing hope for 2009 is to go, have aforementioned day in countryside, and catch just one decent fish instead of those piddlin' little one mouthful-ers i used to houk out at alarming rates...

Well overdue. We've been saying that for over 25 years biggrin.gif

Some good new year fishing ambitions there, lets hope all our dreams come true for 2009, good luck with them folks thumbsup.gif

I reckon the Kennet will do a 20lb barbel before long, the current record is 19lb 5oz taken in october 2006, its amazing how big barbel are getting these days, when I was a lad fishing the Kennet with my dad in the 80's an 8lb fish was very rare and considered a true specimen, we don't even weigh fish now unless they look like they may be double figures.

Wow some great dreams in there chap, hope you realise a few of them cool.gif
I cant really comment on the barbel (me with a 3.5lb pb lol.gif) but my perch pb is bigger than my barbel and have to say when caught my 1st 'three' I almost backflipped into the river with delight. That was the goal for 2007 achived - a winter river 3.

2009 is the 1st year in memory I dont have a target, not that Ive done all I want, just that the foot has finally come off the accelerator over the last few months and its nice....I think my goal for 2009 shall be to spend time enjoying my fishing with friends (something I have neglected over the last few years fishing solo in persuit of various specimins) during which I shall set a new goal for 2010 and have a good brew cool.gif

good luck in 2009 1 and all - may your lines be tight and sing in the wind wink.gif

A 1.5 lb off the shore from the north west of england
Its great to go from a boat in brid and get 5 to 10 lb cod but the north west sucks but we stick with it cause its ours
A few years ago we all went to llandudno pier cause we read the "reports" in the sea fishing mag when we got there all five of us we got talking to a couple of locals who reconded they were going to fleetwood next day and had read of good reports
we all groaned cause that was our haunt and this guy was telling us how they were mirroring us to get a better night
the grass is always greener

There's soooo fecking many for me this year.Ive got 2 target Carpys left on one Pit Ive been fishing for a couple of years, I really wanna catch these this year as I could really do without re-newing my ticket ££££ 34.gif and then the new pit Im fishing Ive only caught 3 of the 20 Carpys so any of these fish will be an added bonus.............

Its sounds easy enough I just know its not gonna go to plan though rofl.gif

Like the Reverand I'd just like to get my rods out a bit more than last year...so I need to go 3 times to fix that 34.gif

As for actual targets the water I occasionally fish has about 15% of heavily scaled olde worlde mirrors amongst the stockies and any one of those will float my boat smoke.gif
