hi guys,i have noticed that two of my plants stems are very thin at the base and seem to be almost being eaten or rotting as they are very thin,i thi nk i know what caused it as i left them under my veg table in damp pots for a week with no light on them so think some damp has got at the stems for too long.is there anything i can do to halt this as i dont think they will be standing up in a few days if i dont treat it now?

jiffa
damp pots with no light will be the coarse

damping off

It sounds like they may be damping off mate. (Not sure what it's actually called, but that's what I call it.) Rotting at the stems because of the damp.
Keep them in the light, maybe even give them a splint to keep them up....?
It is though, very much as Bish describes......

Sorry I can't be more helpful...

not that i know of , just dont water again until they dried out

depending on if the cuts are big enough or not,

you could try chopping off the effected parts at the bottom and treating it as a new cutting with out the minor hiccup.

jiffa
what do you mean ct

take a cutting off them ?

they are rotting where the stem meets the compost
Bish
All depends on how old the plants are i suppose. How old are these plants steve?
pikeepete
are they in a bud period? if not you could give them 24hr light the added warmth from the extra light should help dry the affected area out and the plant should then be able to repair itself!!
could you maybe stake/support the plant and aim a small fan at the affected area??

had a blonde moment earlier but from reading what he first wrote,
regarding them being very thin and under no light for a period,
i assumed they were just cuttings or very young/small plants.

should have asked what stage they were in before replying stoned.gif
