its COD 5 (on veteren) GTAIV and GOW2 for me this week

Got skate2 the other day. It's so hard but so rewarding completing a challenge or whatever after about 100 tries and lots of swearing.

Have beat my high score in Solitaire too many times, but I've recently discovered OpenOffice Calc, it's a horizontal/vertical scroller that lets you design your own maps for Arkanoid 1&2. Also, if I set out 7 columns and label them Monday to Sunday, then do each column a different colour, it breaks the week up a bit.

RE5 is stunning visually but the controls take abit of getting used too, HAWX is class though, im loving playing that at the moment

but the cars do drive better than any other car game ive raced roll on the patches

Bought Dawn of War 2 yesterday - twice - first time was out of Cex, 2nd hand, saving a tenner I thought, took it home, went to install it, only to find that it was a Steam game and whoever had bought it originally had activated it and still had it on their own Steam account, so back into town, quick explanation, refund, over to Game, bought the full price version, took it home, installed it, only to discover that my graphics card (Ati X800 pro) doesn't support Shade Model 3.0, so contacted a mate and got my old GT6800 back off him, had to swap the entire kit out to a new case in the end, finally got it installed, only to find it runs like a three-legged pig on my minimum spec machine, glitching/clipping everywhere. Been looking forward to it for ages too, time to upgrade methinks.

My rig is still fucked so no gaming for parka. I would be playing DoW2 and Total war Empire :'(

fingers crossed I'll have the money in a week or two to fix my beast

Been mostly playing recently:

Streetfighter 4 on 360- good fun for a week
Killzone 2 on ps3- mediocre to pretty good
Empire Total War on pc- just bought it, seems good

I would still rather play CS on the pc tbh. Although it's been nice to dust off the ps3 and get at least abit of use out of it.

dont get too excited dude, ive got it already, had it over a week now so given it a good play - its shite tbh
visually its stunning, absolutely great on the eye but everything else about it is dogturd,
for example you are running along and you wanna chop a zombies head off or shoot at them but the second you do that on RE5 your character just stands still so theres no runner-gunnering or anything like that
so basically its got not much playability and the controls are just shite too, theres just not enough there to make me wanna play RE% over other games

This week I have mostly been playing Dead Space on my PC - enjoyed it, too.

It's quite a lot like being a (mainly) solo character in your very own Alien film.

Am currently playing it through a second time, as completing it the first time unlocks new equipment and bits of the back-story etc. - you also get to keep all the items and equipment that you were left with at the end of the first playthrough to use in the second.

Next week, I reckon I will be mostly seeing if I like Mass Effect.

I've recommended loads of games to you that you condemn without giving a chance. Is it zombies you have a problem with in particular as you said left4dead and fallout 3 were shit too (you didn't even get out of vault 101 FFS, and still said it was shit ).
Your point on 'run and gun' is silly at best. Can you imagine trying to "run and gun' with a rocket launcher, grenade launcher or desert eagle (fucking recoil will have you on the floor unless you're Popeye- lucky for Chris Redfield, he's been on the 'green herb' too) - you'd end up hitting nothing except, perhaps, yourself . You even get chance to dodge almost all melee attacks, so whats the need? I think you've been playing too many FPS games.
Also, why would you run up to someone and shoot them in the head? Are you training for an armed response unit?

I've been playing RE5 for well over 30 hours in the last week (completed on normal) and i love it. It's very similar to Res4 in style and gameplay, the controls are practically the same as all the other res games. There's lots of secrets, infinite ammo modes, an extra difficulty setting after you complete on veteran by the sounds of it too. Plus there's Mercenaries again, which is always good. Replayability is top notch and the online mode brings a much needed multiplayer aspect to the series (although i obviously haven't played it due to fear of getting my 360 banned). I can see this being a great mode though, as my only gripe is that the AI isn't scripted too well - perhaps this'll be sorted with an update.
This game completes the RE storyline and is not just recommended but essential for any fan of the series.

Scribs, have you played KOTOR? if so, mass effect will be right up your street. the prequel book is essential reading for back story. cheap on amazon. There's also another book that's the sequel for the next ME game due late this year/early next. I'd recommend playing a character with some biotic ability as playing as a soldier doesn't really allow many tactical battles, rather shoot first ask later, gameplay.
Dead space is a great game though - i'll definetly be giving it another go soon.

This week i have been playing Tom Clancy`s Hawx.

This arcade flight game has the best visuals i have seen on any Flight Sim. The citys look amazing. Stunning.

Though i must stress its no Flight Simulation.

There is no take off and landings. You start in the air and finish there.

This aside, Its no flight simulator more an enjoyable flight shoot em up.

The aircraft models look good, though i have seen better, In Hawx bomb bays and things like that dont open like Air Combat 5. I felt a little let down by this as they feel rushed into production.

Also the flight geeks might notice its not a Mig-25 as stated but the Mig-31. Again maybe there research was rushed.

Over all i would give Hawx 6 outa 10.

Im dissaponted t hear a bad review of RES 5. I was going to get it tommorow. Now i dont know.

Yeah - I liked KOTOR a lot - it was quite a long time that I played it through, I think that it might be due a dust-off and a replay.

Must say that in general I've never been the biggest fan of turn-based strategy games, but I really enjoyed KOTOR. I'll look forwards to giving Mass Effect a spin, I think - thanks for the playtips.

this year i will be mostly playing empire: total war if your a fan of the series this is an absolute must-buy

i played fallout 3 again the other day and got out of the vault and it was still boring as shit, and left for dead was shit beyond belief thats why hardly anyone still plays it, i guarantee thats what will happen with RE5 too

no problem. KOTOR was a great game and my fingers are crossed for The Old Republic MMO being better. Bioware are putting an immense amount of story into it although the graphics look a bit shady.

Brum, Scar, have you guys played RE before? The controls are almost exactly the same as the other RE games. You've only had over a decade to get used to it.

Squaggles- that's a hard choice. I like a good geek-fest so it's Mass Effect for it's 'space opera' setting for me. I reckon FO3 would appeal to more people though. Don't believe Scarface if he tells you HAWX is better than Fallout.

Only played Fallout 3 and Dead Space. Its a hard one but i would go with Fallout 3. Although they a both great games.

its been overhyped and is gonna be a let down for many, i know it was for me

There's always dips after a few days, a week, a month, etc wouldn't surprise me that there's more people who don't like it for obscure reasons. Overhyped? didn't you say the same about GTA4? You want a letdown? Play Age Of Conan - then you'll know letdowns bud. I've felt that way about a lot of games recently too but RE5 isn't one of them.
If Alan Wake and FF13 weren't due out this year I'd bet RE5 would have got a few GOTY awards. Saying that, it is more of the same formula, but that formula sells. It gets great reviews. It's fun.

theres not many games that make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck but it is frankly awesome. i've played it about 5 times already.

yeah i did say that about GTA4 it was a letdown, i was expecting so much more from that too but i think tbh im just not into that sort of game, the grand theft format is another gametype i feel is getting old now, the novelty of beating up hookers and robbing them on a game got boring after i hit the age of about 16
the best thing about RE5 without a doubt is the cutscenes, and if it wasnt for that one thing (turning into a statue when you use a weapon) id probably like it, but that 1 problem is such a huge one it makes the game unenjoyable, i wanna be able to run or at least walk slowly when im pulling the trigger or slicing, not be stuck there like a statue
I just feel the game has so much potential and its not being used
also you cant no-scope, if you try to it just moves your player untill he is pointing at his female companion - i wanna no-scope god damn it

Yes i've played RE before but not for a good couple of years. TBH i didn't remeber the earlier one's being so stop and shoot but i suppose expectations change as technology and general standards improve.

A decade to get used to it? Maybe so but you know what they say, if it aint broke, don't fix it. If it is, ffs do something about it.

I've really not played RE5 enough to codemn it or otherwise, but on initial impressions it just didn't feel fluid.

Finished Res5 last night, it's a 2/10 at best, doubt it'll get played again.
