I just watched a free showcase DVD of Catching the Impossible that came free in this weeks Angling Times, its a new series of films made by Hugh Miles of A passion For Angling fame and features Martin Bowler catching specimen size fish of all species narrated by Bernard Cribbins.
There is some amazing carp stuff on this free CD, Martin and Bernard catch a double figure carp from the margins of a gin clear lake, you can see 3 big carp feeding and eventually taking the bait, then there is some film of the carp spawning too and also some close up shots of them taking dog buscuits off the top.
The second part of the film is Martin hooking and playing a 15lb Barbel from Adams Mill on the river Ouse, heart stopping to watch.
The best thing about the DVD is all the underwater footage of barbel, carp, a big shoal of perch, roach, trout and pike and chub, it really is amazing footage not filmed in a tank but in the fishes natural homes. The footage of a barbel picking up pellets attached to the hook and ejecting them instantly was fascinating to me.
If you want to see it you have until tomorrow to get the Angling Time as the new edition is out on Tuesday.
Unbelievably none of the TV channels want to show this amazing series, its been said by all the fishing mags and top anglers that its the greatest fishing series ever made, the BBC would rather show that shite with Robson Greene that was on recently. If you want to see Catching the Impossible then you will have to buy it on DVD, the first 3 episodes are out now and I have just ordered mine today.
