I have a grow going right now, but its my first since '85(things HAVE changed since then)what I have now is ashtray pot---dont know what the seeds are but they are growing...My question is what seeds should I get for my next crop?

1. Something hardy(I'm still going to make some mistakes, I need something forgiving)
2. I'm growing indoors w/400w MH
3. I prefer Indica
4. I'm using soil
5. Prefer an up-high buzz over couch potato thing(but I'm not that picky)
6. Like quality/aroma over yield

Everbody here seems pretty familiar with whats the best for this or that, I'd just like some feedback before I make a choice....Thanks ahead of time and party at my place after the grow....here's pic of the current grow..

Hi mate. If you dont know what the seeds are there is no point spending time and money when they could turn out to be some crap weed. Why not spent a few quid and get some top quality genetics then when harvest day comes your you know its gonna be good naughty.gif . The only strain I would reccomend at the moment is killer skunk from VRG. Peace

Indicas will generally give the couchlock more than a buzzy high but i'd say you would be best off getting a hybrid to get the best of both worlds. I can highly recommend 'The Pure' as it's hardy, seems to throw up some excellent phenotypes and it's even cheap to buy. I liked it so much i'm growing it again yahoo.gif
It's basically skunk#1 from flying dutchman and costs about 20 quid a pack, in fact as you yon't seem very far in with your current lot i'd do em this time. I think growing out seeds takes far too long to risk it on unknown genetics, are your seeds from seeded weed? If so they could possibly throw up loads of hermies.

Just a pointer for your next grow though- It's much better to pot up rather than put small plants in such big pots. I'd start in very small pots like 3inchers then pot up into 1litre, 3.5ltr then into finals (say 6 or 7 litres). The plants will have a much better root system and there is much less chance of the roots going anaerobic. The problem with big pots and small rootmass is that the roots stay wet too long leading to manky brown roots doh.gif

All the best with your future grows

Not only are the pots too big, but linears don't really cut it - even at the seedling stage - and this is from someone who started out flowering under them in '94 (quite successfully I thought - until I got my HPS).

Since then I've gained the confidence to really go for it and emulate the tropical sun. (took me ten years to do so though.)

Here are some seedlings 9 inches from a 250 watt HPS :-

(Slightly stretched from starting under linears)

I briefly dallied with 20 watt household CFLs - one per seedling at 1 1/2 inches, for the first 2 weeks but next grow I'm going back to my HPS after only 7 days.

A 400 watt lamp may be overkill, but this time of year the extra heat is likely to be beneficial and it'll only cost you an extra tenner in electricity over 4 weeks anyway. I'm guessing you would want to keep a 400 watt lamp at 12 to 18 inches.

I concur that it's not worth taking a gamble on bagseed. I wasted years growing a rubbish hybrid I bred myself from the excellent skunk#1 I was growing (and then lost), and a (male) seed I found in the toilet at work. If you're very unlucky it may well turn out to be hermaphrodite.

If you're genuinely after easy to grow "party weed" then yes, 3/4 sativas like skunk#1 would be the right choice - though taste-wise it can be a tad lacking.

Personally, after going more sativa, I've now gone the other way and am looking for chill-out indicas. My ideal is to have the choice.

I'd give em another try mate, there's some cracking flavours in the Skunk#1 particularly Fd's version i found. The one of them had a most wonderful lime flavour although i am very partial to a citrusy flavoured weed biggrin.gif

Different strokes and all maybe.....

The plants I grew from a cutting I was given in '94 were stunning - I gagged come harvest time - nutty, aromatic - perfect party weed. .. though I wasted it a bit by always using licorice papers.
Unfortunately I lost the original line and my hybrid was pants .. and prone to hermieism if you mucked about with the light ... though I persisted growing that for years.

When I grew out a pack of Sensi's in 2002 I was very disappointed - seriously robust plants though.
One of them had real flavour - though unfortunately it was a bit like a preserved badger in a museum case. tongue.gif
The Skunkman freebies I grew were a bit more indica - but "muddled" rather than bland.
In a way a bit like the Mandala mix I keep hoping will mature into something nice in the jar.
At some point I'll make sieved hash from them (hardly smoked any sad.gif )

I like my sativas a bit more pure - the ones in my Canna Biogen mixes were excellent.

I've no doubt you're right though - sounds like you've found a real gem there. smile.gif

My depression has turned into mild anxiety now, so I'm very much into the chilled indica camp and on Blab's (and others') advice it's going to be Tiki's Yarkoum - with the hope of blackcurrant flavour.

Always the eternal question.. and then of course if you throw a '..your opinion' in there.. the possibilities could be endless.

As far as bagseed grows... there's a reason you got seeds in your bag. I dont know why people knock it so much.. I've grown some wonderful plants with bagseed.. however... they have all had about a 70% hermie ratio, and tend to be fairly inconsistent. The first time you grow a 'purebred' you'll know the differences straight away. Nothing wrong with practicing on bagseed imo though.. I learned some of my best techniques this way. Its easy to use bagseed for me because I was never worried about the results... I tied, twisted, bent, pulled, sliced, nailed, and chopped the shit out of my bagseed plants... now when I do get those good strains.. I know better what I'm doing.

Lots of choices out there man... find a fast finisher for low $ and start experimenting. thumbsup.gif

I'd like to thank everybody who added their thoughts and ideas. One thing is I did't realize the impact on the size of the pots. Another, I did't realize the weakness of the light set-up. Its great to have some input from people who know about this. The good news is I have already ordered and should have a MH set-up on my doorstep within the week, and should be ordering something good to grow before the week is out(I knew this internet thing would be good for something yahoo.gif ). These seeds however were literally scraped out of car ashtrays that had been there many months at least. I have been bone dry--stone cold out for over 2 months(the dreams at night are wearing me out unsure.gif ), so I'm looking forward to even these little guys progress. And will appreciate even more some of the top/hardy strains available. Again thanks for input/kind thoughts/& good advice....Any other ideas are welcome, I know opinions vary, but thats fine with me, I'll take all the help I can get...Thanks again...
