Full Version: Collecting Butane/oil solution in a teflon dish?

Hey everyone

I've got a few oz of trim from my guerilla grow that I am planning on making oil from, using grobag's butane method in a coffee pot. But I have an idea and wonder if they're any reason why it'll fail.

The guides and people's threads usually collect the filtered oil/butane solution in a pyrex dish, but I was wondering if collecting the oil into a teflon-lined (non-stick) container might make collecting the oil easier.

A cheap new frying pan is only a couple of quid, and cheap pans are also pretty flimbsy, so it might even be possible to make a kind of spout to drain the oil easily. But the main thing with a new pan is that the teflon will be as smooth as it ever will be, and think of how water or cooking oil really beads in a new pan (even when its cold). Weed oil should do the same, so it might make collecting the oil after the butane has evaporated trivial.

Anyone tried anything like this, or got any suggestions?

Not sure about the coating. I use a 200ml pyrex ramekin, about £1 each. OK for 2x300ml cans. If you leave it at an angle when still hot most of the oil drains to one side. I scrape it with a penknife or scalpel.

I wouldn't trust cheap frying pans as far as I could throw my oven, you may end up with BHO with lots of bits of frying pan in. I read about a good teflon method recently though: you can buy teflon bags for grilling and toasting in, extract directly into the bag then put that into the freezer wait for BHO to harden and empty the peices from the bag into your container. Sounds quite simple

Foaf, from another forum has been using that method for a couple of years. I guess that's where you must have read about it. You missed out the bit about purging the solvent before putting it in the freezer. I know what you meant but others might have been confused. To clarify for others, you pour the oil/solvent into the teflon bag and let the solvent evaporate. Then you purge the oil by placing the bag in hot water, or on a heat pad, before placing the teflon bag in the freezer until the oil is solid. A little crushing with your fingers through the bag loosens the brittle oil. If you can't find teflon bags then you could use a teflon cooking mat instead, which are easy to find online. In which case, you'd line a tray with the teflon mat, pour the oil/solvent into the tray, purge the oil of solvent and then place the mat and oil in the freezer.
