In these conditions there is no need for messing around with hair rigs and pellets, big smelly lumps of garlic flavoured meat mounted diretly onto a big size 2 hook, 12lb line and 3oz leads were my tactics today.
The session started well with a 10lb 2oz borris in the net on first cast of the day, she was taken in slacker water out of the main current right in the margins directly behind a big over hanging tree and took the bait less than a minute after it went in, I must of dropped it right on her nose.
I spent the afternoon fishing well into darkness roving about and trying all the likely looking spots but dissapointingly only had 2 more fish out both around 6lb, in conditions like that they should be crawling up the rod. I aint too bothered though as a double is always a good result in my book.
I am off out again tomorrow and hopefully they will have their heads down feeding hard like they should be in those conditions.
10lb 2oz of hard fighting Kennet barbel

And here is the swim she was caught from. That is looking upstream and she was right behind the tree on the left
