Hi all,
Just received and installed a new 600w hps into my room approx 2.5sqm.
I have external fan bextraction and blowing the cold air in and an extraction with Carbon Filter.
The temps are 32.5 with lights on is this going to be a problem, if so what can i do??
Heres my diary for ref

hey m8.
well am new here so really best not listen to me too much..
but as a rule of thumb i always try and keep things below 30c
more heat than this seems to cause more trouble than helping, in my case anyway.
as for ways to make it cooler, well depends on yer cash flow really, air conditioner would be nice but dam costly imo.
simpler ways ofc would be good old fans and maybe have 1 dedicated to blowing air into and around the 600w bulb. Even cheaper allow more "cooler" air
to enter threw the air intake, have the intake near a fresh air vent or window, if the windows etc are all sealed have it close to the enterance to the room
and leave the door open when poss. anyway theres my 2 cent. common sence really but it is difficult controlling an enviroment when there are other
factors to consider, eg leaking light humidity bugs ^^
anyway much love am sure u will get it sorted m8

What kind of fan do you have?
It doesn't mention it in your diary.
If its an ordinary extraction fan then it won't do the job for a 600w.

i had same prob but other way round temps to low by bout 2-3 degrees. use to intake air from loft, now do it from same room in house and bingo bango temps up 2-3 degs. can u pull in cooler air from loft? your prob find humidity gettin v low too with these temps. good luck m8.

Hi Shepard,
Thanks for your time m8, i am growing in my cellar so quite confined and also not the warmest of places, i can possibly get some trunking over to a wall grill on the side of house which may do the trick. i will have to visit my hydro man tomorrow.
Hi aurora79
Cheers for your input, i had a simliar problem with lights out but with thermawrap all the way aroung the walls this alleviated the issue.
Hi chrisesq,
Cheers for taking time to write. I have got a 100mm RVK Fan, Phat Filter-Carbon Filter for extraction and a 100 watt (175m3) fan into 5" duct which is about 1.5 metres long, fanb is situated on top of grow room with duct dropped to the bottomso air is flowing round the bottom area.
Would it help if used less duct and have the air blowing across the plants??

Just raised the light to the very top of the room and this seems to have done the trick, temps down t0 29.7. But will this now make the girls stretch to the light and if so wont it get to hot when they do stretch?????

generally anything above 28C is not good, how is your extraction/intake?

In the confines that you have you need to either upgrade your extraction or draw air in from a cooler source or a combination of the both. At the moment you are running hot and the outside daytime temps are about 12c. When the weather (eventually) heats up the problem will get worst.
Even if you draw air in from a cooler source it will probably only cure the problem whilst outside temps are cool.
If you can draw ir in from a different source then I would go down that route first. If it does not make an appreciable difference then I would invest in a fan upgrade for my extraction and use the RVK 100 as an intake.
A speed controller on your intake as well can be a big help with temperature control.

Hi spliff reef
Got similar problem mate so not much help i'm afraid.
Mines a 1x1x2 grow tent, 600w mh or hps, 150mm extraction (with carbon filter) and 125mm intake. the extraction runs intop my bedroom where the grow tent is (no more than 2m acoustic ducting) and the intake is in my on-suite (check me out) with a window open (no more than 3m acoustic ducting). Temps by intake fan around 18C. Fans hooked up to climate control unit.
My main problem is same as yours temp at 32.5C with fans on full!
I tried a cool star reflector but that made it worse.

Not sure how these would work as they heat up the intake air (unless u need another intake if using a cool star?)
Any other ways to sort this out??

Alright Bongh,
Sorry only just replying, i have been busy with my other diaries.
I ditched the idea of 600w hps, decided to go down the route of 125 blue enviro as i have started off some nl and mazar beans so i then had the problem of too cold!!!

so decided to pop a oil rad with my intake ducting close up to it and this did the trick.
Just put a 400w dual spectrum hps in there today (apparantly these can be used for veg and flower) i also needed some power for my autos as they are supposed to be ready in a week or two but the buds are smaller than ants nuts!!! hopefully the 400w sodium will do the job. Obviuosly the oil rad will make temps double high if i do the same so i have put the rad on a timer and this only comes on when lights are off (20/4 at mo) will veg at 12/12.
Dont know if this helps mate but anything is worth a try.
