I duly introduced myself in the New Members forum (and was warmly welcomed!)and promised to post some photos soon. However, I had not long resumed my growing activities after a year’s break and my grow was in a transitional and constantly evolving state. I decided to wait until it had settled down some before posting any pix.
I’m happy to report that with a few exceptions, most aspects of the grow are now under control and are ready to reveal to you all. Please bear with me, this could take some time.
First up, some pix of my Veg. Tent. It’s 165cm x 65cm x 160 cm. I bought this size because it was a perfect fit for my NFT tank. It’s a Hydro lab. I’m not overly impressed with the quality, I’ve already had some issues with the zips. However, with some careful handling I reckon it’ll last for a while. Main thing: it does the job.

I used to have a 400w MH in there but recently decided to give CFLs a go. I currently have 2 x 125W Enviros(6400k) lighting the tank and 2 x 30W Daylight spirals over the propagation shelf. I intend to add 2 more of the spirals when I have chosen and raised my mums. There’s a space in the left hand corner to do that.
I’ll point out some details. The shelf is a length of laminate flooring which I halved and screwed to a light batten. Cuphooks and chain suspend it from the tent frame. It doesn’t interfere with raising/lowering the lights. It has 3 propagators on it holding 50 odd cuttings which I took last week. I’ve only recently installed this so I don’t know how successful it’ll be. I‘ve been monitoring the temp. of the rooting cubes and I’m pretty happy with it. I predict a good result......
I’ve been using this tank (I have another which I will reveal soon....) for around 8 years. I used to use them for flowering using Rockwool cubes in NFT. Later I used pots and pebbles and dripper feeds. Now I use them for vegging my plants to prepare them for life in Bubblers.
Some more details. I’ve set it up to hold 24 plants. I was going to add a CorriBoard cover to prevent algae but decided not to bother. Enviros don’t seem to cause algae the way that HIDs do. The dripper system is home made. A length of 15mm white plastic push-fit plumping pipe was capped at one end and drilled to accept dripper nipples. These were then glued in with Araldite Rapid. It’s fixed at the other end to a Maxi Jet pump with 13mm tube and barbed elbows. The pipe is secured to the tank with the mandatory green plastic coated twisty stuff. Silicon airline is connected to the nipples and held over the pot using modified (drilled!!) clothes pegs. (Clothes pegs have infinite uses in my grow room.) The pump is currently running continuously but I’ll probably add a timer. I use Ionic Grow with a splash of Maxicrop.
The tank currently has 24 plants in net pots in it. From right to left: 9 feminised Cheese from GHS; 8 Regular Super Silver Haze from GHS; 7 clones from plants grown earlier from my own seeds.
I resumed activities in June this year after a year break. I had no stock to work with but I had a big bag of seeds from last year. I have already completed 2 compost grows using these seeds. All of the other plants you’ll be seeing are clones of those plants. The gene pool includes White Rhino, Papaya, Ultra Skunk and Northern Lights. They are a very mixed bag in terms of genotype but already I have clones of some great plants. Unfortunately they were taken late in flower so it’ll take ages to reveg and clone them. I call it UV. That’s Unknown Variety. I’ll be harvesting them in 2 weeks, I’ll take some photos.
The Cheese and one of the clones will be going into 12/12 in 2 weeks. The SSH is for another project. But that’s another story. You’ll be seeing more about that later.
The tent runs on a 18/6 cycle and has passive ventilation. The actual room in which I have my grow has active air intake via a 150mm Systemair A1 but at the moment the fan is switched off( too cold outside ) so it’s really acting as a passive air duct. I’ll post photos of my complete ventilation setup later.
The tent occupies a relatively small space in my growroom but everything else I do is dependent on its successful operation. I’m very happy with it so far. My plants love it. I hope you like it too.
Flo.
