Hi guys,
can anyone please tell me why a few of my babies are kinda dry looking and curling under?
The worst one has a few wee orange spots on it and is quite curled.
Im hoping its just a heat issue...im using 2x600w hps which are just under a metre away! The humidity ranges from 35% to 50%...when soak my towels that are in the room.
I have a 9inch fan trained on them...i had 2 but i thot it might get a bit too cold at night. When i checked on them a wee while ago i raised one of the fans a bit higher than the plants and kept one fan on them to try and get a bit more air movement.
Can anyone diagnose the problem from the pics?
Any help and advice would be much appreciated, cheers lads

Light burn is the most likely, plus they look exactly the same as mine when i burnt them.
At what distance has the light been at?
E2a:- just seen you said under a meter, how far under exactly?

alright evans mate, cheers 4 quick reply. They were sittting at about 70cm last night, i moved them to 90cm this morning.
Will i just raise the lights again or do u think the fan thats sitting above them might help coz theres more air movement?
Cheers bud

i forgot to mention....
iv got 26 babies and only 8-9 are affected, will this be to do with the hot spots i have been reading about.....where the reflectors are beaming the light down with more concentration at certain areas?
cheers guys

Thats your prob there mate 70cm is only just over 2ft which is to close for those little ones, i start them with the light at about 4ft under a 600W even then i still found a little orange spot here n there but it didnt make the leaves twist or that.
I'd raise the light to about 4ft to give them a few days to recover then put it to about 3ft n gradually move it down over the next 2 weeks or so, i mean gradually tho like a an inch or so a day or a couple of inches every couple of days.
E2a:- ye could well be the hotspots from the reflector couldn't say that for certain but 2ft ish is to close for seedlings for sure, believe me i've burnt a few

Thanks evans!!
Iv just moved them higher....but they are sitting around 5ft away now....the reason for this is i have had to raise them above the joysts!! Is this too far ? If it is il get something 4 them to sit on 2morrow...bit late just now!!
Thanks mate....i'l get back 2 u 2morrow, of to my bed now!!

They will prob start to stretch if you leave it to high so i'd try to get it about 3.5-4ft tomoro then just move it gradually down

Well I actually start seedlings under 400w hps at about 16 inches and within 10 days its down to a foot.
You have no light burn mate. You've got 2 x 600w which is a lot of light but I wouldnt have the plants more than around 2 feet away even then.
5 feet is just ridiculous, might as well fit smaller lights and halve the distance otherwise and you've got really adequate vent for your set up.
Light burn typically bleaches leaves but you've probably very dry air which will cause some leaf curl but its no biggie at all.

You have no light burn mate
So the fact the leaves are starting to twist and show orange burnt spots is what then?

Can't sleep!!!
thanks 4 the help guys....iv had the fans turned down using a light dimmer....could this be part of the problem?
im gonna need to try and sound proof the fans, coz when they on full pelt they make a bit of a racket!!!
il raise the babies a little 2 morrow, only 8 hours at 5 foot......hopefully they wont stretch that much n it'l give them a wee breather from the heat!!
Will i need to increase to fan speeds?
Cheers again

It really depends what there running at. If the temps are ok then i wouldn't turn them up cause if the temps are ok running a 600W then your defo getting enough fresh air.
Its defo your light being to close i had the exact same thing in my 1st grow look here
http://www.uk420.com/boards/index.php?s=&a...t&p=1270912 as you can see they started twisting just like yours then 2 days later they looked like this
http://www.uk420.com/boards/index.php?s=&a...t&p=1272695Its up to you what you do but i'd go for it being light burn just like i did with mine.

That twist is normal and where are the orange spots?
Keengrower,8 hours at 5 feet, what ARE you doing!

The orange spots are staring to appear, you can see a couple in the 3rd pic in his 1st post.
Agreed 5ft is to high, i'd o with 3ft personally the only reason i said about 4ft was to give a little time to recover.
Out of interest what reflector you using?

hi guys,
thanks evans n drrockster 4 ur help....dr its my first grow mate plz go easy on me!!
hi dr, the reason i had to leave them at 5 ft away is because ...in my room i only have so much head hight before i need to lift the lights above the joysts.....that ment they were 5 foot away and i had nothing to raise the plants off the floor with. the lights are off just now but when they come back on im gonna raise the lights a bit more but also raise the plants to be nearer them!!!
Alright evans,.......yea , mines look just like urs mate....hope i get buds like urs in the end

, well done with that grow buddy!! im using an adjustawing , and a diamond...i bought a kit off a guy and thats what he had. I also have 2 other 600w hps with smaller reflectors...think they might be budjet ones but not to sure, but i used these 2 coz when i looked up the prices these 2 were alot dearer than the others so i just assumed they would be better.
Im thinking about going and buying some sort of climate controller that does the fans 4 when it gets too hot and a heater 4 at night....they 140 squids but , and also one of they humidifiers you bought as my humidity does go pretty low....iv went in a couple of mornings and there hasn't even been a reading on the meter!!!
I'll let yous know if they have stretched much when the lights come on, n if the leaves are lookin any better!!
Cheers lads

Hey dr,
what i ment was that i had just raised the lights up to being 5 ft away.....and i couldt get the babies any closer until today.....which was 8 hours under the light....at 5ft away.
was just coz i didnt have anything i could sit my plants on until 2day.
They have been under 24 hrs 4 5 days and 18/6 for 5 days. they were on 24hrs coz i didnt have a heater until day 5...then i switched to 18/6.
i think u thot i ment they have only been in with lights on for 8 hours a day?
soz....was prob the way i wrote my post!!
this help any?
cheers
