none that i can think of, a 600W HPS is the most efficient out the range of wattages as far as i know

1000w are good on a light rail but in general they will generate alot of heat plus you have to have a distance from plant way moe than a 600w, so hieght might be an issue.

I love my thou and can never go back!, its paid for itself already in bud as the thou's grow fatter bud IME, if ventilation can handle it then I would get one

600w is probably the best option..
but..

1000W = more sticky

I'm using a 400w currently but will upgrade to the 600w. 1000w puts out lots of heat and needs to be a good distance away... seems like I get better usage from smaller watt lights. I can put them closer and feel a little better 'connected' .. but there's no doubt that 1000w will really 'guck up' your plants. (I mean Guck in the best stickiest way possible)

Me too the difference is slight, I used to use a 600 and a 400 in the same space, the thou gives fatter bud with less heat than 2 lamps and its at aprox 50W/ft^2... perfect

At the end of the day it depends on size of space and extraction as to what is the perfect light

Except that you wll have 400w more, therefore(as long as the other factors are right) you will get more bud.

I been wondering this for a while, Alot of UK growers dont seem to like them, but the Americans and Oz's seem to love them..

I have heard they are less efficient than a 600, but surely if you can keep temps down then this wouldnt be so bad? Or are they really that hot?

I would use one if I wanted to grow some big Sativas or if I was going to do a vert cage grow maybe.

You would get a better light/heat spread if you used 2x600w and you should get more bud whistling.gif

The cost of electricity might be a factor. It always feels expensive to those paying for it but some Americans seem to pay in cents per Kw/hr what we pay in pence, maybe less. If you're already running aircon then having it handle the grow as well seems a natural step. Better cooling due to the aircon and 1Kw is looking good.

I wish someone would design and market ballasts just for us. Even Lumatek have their ballasts as if total cost of ownership (for businesses) was a factor. It costs us nothing in wages to change a bulb so why do the things have mega bulb life? Wind it up until the bulb starts to be below par at 6 months. About 750w should do it, screw in a 600w bulb and have it as bright as a 1Kw.
