Anyone tried it? Does it really sweeten the buds....?

If so what sort of sugar should I use, and how much, and at what stage of growth, And can they be mixed with normal organi nutes?
jiffa
some folks use molasses , thats sweet . not sure why though

Hi Mate

i have used mollasses during my most current grow but on the assumption that it was the micro herd that fed on it rather than for creating sweeter buds.

Im also fairly sure that on one of the organic threads i read that excessive sugar in the buds would actually be carcenagenic (sp?), but i could be way of the mark on that one.

not much help i guess smile.gif

it wont sweeten buds mate try one off those flavored flush's or adding citrus peels to curing jars sugar doesnt burn well and wont be taking up by the roots think there was a method with a needle straight into stem but that another story
ReverendRFB
There are some sweeteners you could buy that are supposed to do what they advertise... personally - save that stuff for Strawberries and Raspberries. The biggest flavor enhancer I've found is using the Microbial enzymes and such.. And orange peels in the curing jars is a definate. thumbsup.gif

Interesting. Does that work well? Or does it just add to the smell of the cured bud more than it alters any taste?

Ive got some Cheese that I have been giving nothing but diluted Splenda, 5ml per litre. I have just chopped some that have been on the "sweet flush" for about 18days and as Ive also chopped some that were on grow/bloom only, I will hopefully be able to taste a difference - good or bad!!!
IMO it hasnt added anything to size, but these were flowered straight from clone as space fillers and weren't expected to be large anyhoo. stoned.gif
I will have some dry testers in about a week and am looking forward to the sweet smoke.

Cheers

rofl.gif There was a time when the only flavour of ice cream was vanilla. Then along came a couple of guys, we'll call them Ben and Jerry.
They started "pissing about" with flavours and the rest , as they say, is history wink.gif

beneficial soil bacteria loves oxygen and sugar. Molasses is prefered but some bacterial powders sold for canna growers include sucruse so I imagine most any sugar is good enough. Say a tablespoon per feeding per 4 plants.
The Sheriff
Heya , ive been using it 12 months carnt say it flavours the bud nea.gif , putting the odd spoon in with youre organic nuets is fine provides many micronutrients and some K , you're feeding the microherd multiplying the beneficial bacteria , a quicker way to multiply them quicker is to brew the molasses along with the benificial minerals and bacteria , casting , seaweed etc etc leave it bubble 30 odd hours dilute mix with youre preferd organic feed .

I would certainly check how the sugar is refined wink.gif Molasses for eg most the stuff is with added salts and sulfer .

memory is a wonderful thing for those who have it..
if i remember, molasses comes from sugar cane, syrup from the 1st process, treakle from the 2nd and molasses from the 3rd process

I second that. Big time.

You buy or get good genetics for the flavour and aroma. Its all about enjoying the Canna taste, aroma, smell etc. Why the hell make it taste of something else. Its like rubbing marmite on a fillet steak.

I like my weed to taste of weed, not orange zest. If i wanted to taste a fruity taste, grow a fruity strain.

Also if you have ...say, a haze and a skunk curing in a jar, once done they will bothe taste of what they should do.

If you put citrus zest in each jar, they will both taste of citrus zest, therefore eliminating the different characteristics.

I used to dissolve demarara sugar into my feeds, 1 t spoon per feed, the difference.....NOTHING.

Yeah, cos its iced cream and if it wasn't flavoured with anything it would taste rank, unlike decently grown and cured weed which already tastes nice without adding any chunky monkey.

When on hols in caribean i was given a caddy to play golf. on the way round we got talking about cannabis. He told me that he over dries his buds and then dampens them with rum. It was a nice smoke and could get a sweet taste from it. Not sure if he was bulshitting

theres a sweetener by advanced nutrients called sweet leaf, its a very sugery an sticky nutrient that adds sweetness to crops, i used it for a few grows i cant say i noticed much difference but they did seem a bit sweeter, but ive never grown the same strain twice so cant really compare them fairly.

I use SweetLeaf and it's the dog's bollocks! cool.gif However, what the hell is in those little sachets that come with a bouquet of flowers? Probably sugar + other stuff. An old tip for anyone into flowers is to add 7 Up to the water. Sugar!

yes but vanilla is still best, all the rest are just variations on a theme to sell more product.

I've heard some growers say that bat guano improves taste... I've yet to use it myself so not sure if it's true - It sure as hell ain't sweet like sugar though! wink.gif
Randalizer
If one wants sweet tasting bud, learn to dry and cure properly.

and yes, bat guano does a lot for sweetening bud! thumbsup.gif

the theory behind it from what i understand is that pure cane sugar or mollasses(sp) and even maple syrup, all heavily diluted say a tsp to gallon, when used during flushing will continue to provide the plant with glucose to use since youre flushing out all other nutes. its supposed to make nugs swell and develop more res as opposed to not flushing w it would. i guess if you already use something when you flush theres no need for it then tho. spliff.gif

I'm positive your right there Granddad, White and brown sugar from the first process, syrup and treacle from the second and molasses from the 3rd process. Basically by products from each other.

an interesting read there . not so sure about the 7up tip tho , but i'll try anything 1ce , maybe on my Licorice Orange Crush . think ben and gerry might have a hand in that flavour . yes drying and curing techniques help a lot with taste .
