Ah, well! I'm afraid my winter Piking days are done - unless I want hugely inflamed arthrritis! The last one I caught was a fit young jack of about 10 - 12 lb, taken on a 6Lb tip and a No.10 rated Fly rod. By Crikey, you need to feel the"take" of a Pike, its beyond anything else I've felt. Talk about "Thump!!!", the rod damn near flew out my hands! Took half an hour to get the young'un ashore, but was worth it. Checked it for health, then returned. It fell to a large Whiskey fly, designed for Salmon with a barbless treble hanging out the back.
Go for it Tree Man, its a hoot!
Mine came from the Ouse in York just out of town and nearly trespassing (

) in the Bishop's back garden at Bishopthorpe. I strongly recommend that stretch for young and even big pike.
And the Swale near Topcliffe - that holds some right old hulks of Pike. I've seen ducks vanish by Topcliffe, just a big splosh, a few feathers and duck-no-more. Never mind Duckula, meet Pikula?
