Just wondering if anyone has a heat shield in conjunction with a Diamond Reflector?

Apparently, these heat shields can be used on most reflectors so I thought it might be a worthy investment to buy one and reduce the risk of heat burn...

Hope someone can help wink1.gif

Yeah, get a better fan or at worse a cooltube. IMO them heatshields are just lightshields..........

My fan is already too powerful mate, i need 80 cubic meters per minute airflow for my tent i've got 480cM per minute lol.gif

Forget a cooltube sad.gif

Ah well.

anyone else got any experience with these heatsheilds?

Id like the answer to the above question as well ;-)

I used a heat shield with my 400watt diamond and yes it worked a little but then it produced less light under the heat shield and also pushed the hat to either side of the heat shield so you don't really win.

I just use 2 oscillating fans blowing across the canopy works a treat, I have 2 diamonds.

Well i'm shit outta luck as far as choice goes... this baby can't go back i'm afraid.

Sure i'll manage rolleyes.gif

E2A: Use fans as you say BTW wink1.gif gotta be done!

I do brad. Not sure about the heat though. It does put alot of heat down aswell as light. I noticed the other day hotspots too. If you put a piece of paper under the light between the canopy and bulb you'll notice stripes of brighter light. Not sure what's going on there. Having played with this one for a year or so I think they're overhyped. Going parabolic next, see how that works compared to this diamond.

I use a heat shield...........but with an Adjustawing shade. The two are designed to work together
and Ive found it to be an excellant product..............No "hot spot" directly under the bulb,a prob
with most set ups, which means I can get my 600w down to 6-8 inches above canopy during flower.
And with the Adjustawing you get a remarkabley even light spread,I can place plants right up to
the edges of my room, and they will grow @ the same height as those in the middle that are directly
under light in the old hot spot...............The bumph that came with this kit claims the shield can be
used with all shades but I cant see it bieng quite as effective as when used with Adjustawing.........
........but it will only cost you a few quid for the shield on its own..........so well worth a try Id say...

At the moment I have two diamond reflectors, they are ok but they really whack the heat down, not been tempted to try those heat shields tho'.
I've been looking at that parabolic 1metre job for 50 odd quid in Green's, just wondering what that is like compared to the mini grow star at twice the price?
If anyone has any direct experience I would be interested to hear about it.

I have had both the cheap para and the grostar. Massive difference. For one the cheap para kicks the heat straight down as with the diamond, the grostar throws it out to the sides where you can place fans to blow it away without it affecting the plants at all, the second thing is the reflectiveness, which is noticably better. All in all you can get the grostar closer to the plants, and thats what counts. I'm not sure if its worth £110 exactly but then whats anythign worth? Only what youre prepared to pay for it i guess.

I tried parabolics, replaced them cursing all the while, saw the results from the scrogged plants I vegged with them and put one back in the veg tent.

I ran 2 of them side by side in 1 tent, all good at first but they got so leggy! I'd never had a plant finish above 36" before and these were 4'+ going into 12/12 wtf??? They were MM and NL, growing past the (regular) reflector. With a new tent I vegged JW and ended up doing an emergency scrog in the bloom tent.

While they were chugging along, I came across evans181 grow here using the same reflectors but he did ok. A wtf? moment again.

He has his reflectors higher, so the light can reflect off the walls. Ahhh... that must be the secret thinks I, they do seem to kick more light out to the walls than directly underneath. Mine were as low as poss, couldn't even have a fan blowing on them. More light to the walls, more to the plants etc. Doesn't sound right but then I harvested the scrog, bugger me, I'll settle for that harvest every time. Back went the umbrella in the veg tent, I'm such a whore. smile.gif

Haven't put them back in the bloom tent but at some point I'll give them a fair go.
